Shaving Q: Best Electric Razor?

I'm getting sick of having to run out to the store to buy a ridiculously overpriced pack of Gillette Mach 3 shaving refils every time my old ones run out.

I've had an electric razor years ago, but the shave wasn't as close as I'd like. Has the technology gotten any better today? I seen some pricey Braun and Norelco/Philips models, but I wouldn't mind paying the price if the shave is good.

Electrics still suck compared to a real razor.

Does the level of irritation tend to be less or more than from a traditional safety razor with an electric?

I've heard the new electric razor models provide considerably less razor burn than regular blades.

That's the model I was looking at. Its self cleaning but the catch is you have to buy replacement packs for the cleaning fluid (booo) but its like $9 for 2-3 months.

Norelco has a new razor that you can use in the shower, they advertise it can shave as close as a blade, but they're probably exaggerating a bit ...

I'm friggin' tired of Gillette though. Not only are replacement blades ridiculously overpriced, Gillette purposes designs the blades to wear down faster so you have to buy more of them.

i have one like the braun pictured above (mine has a lcd on it or something).. it works pretty good, and you can clean it yourself if you dont want to pay for the refills (which is just sort of a water alcohol mix of some sort). The shave is good but is kind of difficult to achieve superclose results on hard places like neck areas..

i hear with electrics it might take a few shaves for your skin/beard to get used to the sensation... ive used electrics for a long time so dont really remember though.

I've got that Braun one (with the LCD) and I'm damned pleased with it. The shave is just about as close as a razor except around the adam's apple, which is difficult. I just pull out a razor for that and do a couple quick strokes and bam, I'm all done far faster than if I used a razor for the whole face, not to mention no cuts. I'm more than happy with it.

At least with this Braun one my skin was better right away. Less irritation and no significant problems.
