Scary Euro Man
Naked shoppers hunt for bargains

Shoppers searched for bargains in the buff on Monday night, at the UK's first ever naturist shopping event.

About 15 naturists bared their all at the Plaza shopping centre in Oxford Street, London, while staff remained fully clothed.

Oona Graham-Taylor, spokeswoman for the Plaza centre, blamed the disappointing turnout of naturists on the Euro 2004 football championships.

She said the centre would "possibly" consider holding a naked evening again.

"We were actually hoping for more but it is the first event we have run and the football cut numbers down", she said.

Naturists were invited to register as naked shoppers before being allowed entry on the night.

Many of the centre's shops and restaurants also offered discounts to the nude bargain hunters.

Nick Mayhew, co-author of naturists' guidebook Bare Beaches, was on hand to sign copies of his book.

Speaking before the event he said: "It's a great way to swim and sunbathe but I'm intrigued to know what it like shopping naked."
