Should Bethesda or Microsoft do something about NateTheHate ?

I'm not one to wish ill on others, but this guy flat out ruined the Marketing campaign of Todd Howards dream.

There was supposed to be according to Microsoft only 1 day of Hype for Oblivion Remastered. Todd spoke about this to IGN when Fallout 4 was announced.

IGN Asked him about the Short announcement until release window and Todd said:

"I would like that to become the norm," Howard told IGN at DICE in Las Vegas. "I hope that the way we did it with Fallout changes how a lot of people do it. That's my hope."

But he didn't stop there - Howard made it clear that, given the chance, he'd take things even further.

"The way it went, I would make it even shorter if I could get away with it," he said. "It would be, 'this is out right now.'"

NateTheHate single handedly ruined this for large corporation. Sure Leaks happen but affecting the marketing campaign of a game. Yesterday things were wild about it, only to get blue balled. Could be loss that can be accounted.

Edit: I posted this in the wrong forum, if mods can move it I'd appreciate it.

I'm all for it, here's a trailer and then at the end.. Out Now, hearing and seeing about these games months sometimes years out is a pain in the hole but I don't know the numbers and whether building hype is worth the extra costs in Marketing Vs release

Leakers are always going to exist. Not following people like Nate would be an easy way to avoid or ignore them if it wasn't for the twats who get so giddy with excitement at learning a secret they have to run all over the net posting and discussing it.

This thing had been rumored for far longer than natethehate.

There is absolutely no reason to keep game developments a state secret. its retarded and the practice should be banned.

Just do what Nolan does and announce the movie the moment he finishes the screenplay and starts casting the movie.

Regardless of what they say. Companies in the games world generally don't care about you, or forcing changes on their users. (You don't own a copy of the game you buy, just a license to play that can be revoked !!!) these are not only unfair, but greedy and selfish. From the companies perspective, they don't appear to care what your really think. Unless you vote with your wallet

So it's a bit rich that they can't keep a secret within their own walls

Maybe not look at the leakers and more who is doing the leaking. If that is the case

As for spoiling things. Well that's just human nature and especially if money, or internet fame is involved

Lol you do know its all planned right. Ms for sure imo did a controlled leak to NatetheHate et.al to gauge interest and then again with the screenshots that was convinently discovered a week before release.

So, i actually believe Nate works with some marketing team somewhere. I believe his "leaks" are used to gauge interest in projects already in development.

Nate and Nintnedo's, MS discourse is all about as real as a pro wrestling segment.

Two outside the box ways of thinking about this…

1.) Think about it logically, if someone was receiving information that could be used for manipulation of stocks, or to make someone or something money with insider information, this is a crime.

If Nate really was finding out info prior to a games release he could hypothetically buy or short MS stock. This is a crime in America.

Nate is not above the law. Many people have been suckered into believing this guy is some form of "leaker of leaker, who knows everything". He probably does know a lot, but only talks about what the game companies want him to talk about. If he was straight up leaking "industry secrets", Nintendo and MS would be pissed.

2.). For example, HYPOTHETICALLY—- if I knew of a major 3rd party IP coming to Nintendo Switch 2. This project is not announced and was greenlit in late 2022/early 2023.

The game could be MASSIVE for NS2, but it could also be met with a "MEH". Depending on quality at release.

I would never leak the title, but it is real and coming. If i did leak this title, you better believe Nintendo would be contacting me with their Ninja's. Maybe, I wouldn't be in trouble, but the person who gave me the info, certainly would be.

Edit: This has nothing to do with "Nate" personally. He seems like a nice dude. Just, in general. Too many people are suckered into thinking these random people just leak products worth 10's of millions of dollars without repercussions. That is silly.

I would not be surprised if "Nate" announces his "retirement" from leaking sometime after SummerGame Fest.

It was leaked even earlier by someone claiming to be a former Virtuos dev. And that person pretty much nailed all of the specifics of that remaster, including Paris branch working on it, two engines thingie etc
Correct, but the FTC had a ton of info. Regarding stuff many of us assumed was possible. For Example, the Fallout 3 or NV remaster as well.

It'd also make the events that companies stage much more interesting. Not knowing what you were going to see and then being able to grab it immediately would be excellent.

Much better than a teaser for 2030, and then another gameplay preview for something they showed 3 years ago and still isn't out.

I don't bother looking at those events anymore, you'll hear about everything for months and years anyway.

My post was more about pointing out that particular leak with former Virtuos dev happened even before FTC leak which essentially confirmed that Oblivion Remastered is a thing. But the thing was that FTC leak didn't linked this project to Virtous so we didn't knew if that earlier rumor was accurate until very recently. And turns out that former dev leak was true all along as they pretty much nailed everything, even specifics about two engines and the project codename (Altar)

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure New Vegas remastered wasn't listed among these projects, but I would love to see one and hope they will actually do it after remastering Fallout 3

I couldn't remember if it was Fallout 3 or NV. Just that it was a Xbox 360 Fallout game.

I remember the virtuous dev leak/rumor. But without confirmation it would be taken as a rumor. (Of course). This is back when people speculated if it was Morrowind or Oblivion being remastered.

The FTC leak, while not pointing to a singular Dev (Virtuous), told us that MS/Bethesda was planning on a remaster of the project. It doesn't mean it is a "sure thing", just that it was in planning stages. Which i take as something more than a rumor.

Your post was good, and you have a good memory of the events. Hopefully a Fallout remaster surfaces in the future.

There's a reason Schreier got his ass banned by Bethesda. There's a fine line between breaking the story and being a dick and that's me having more respect that most do for jason.
