in 3 minutes we will know if the window is open for land.

hopefully we will get a plasma trail video from the ISS.

in slightly related subject matter, does anyone have a link to the ONBOARD black box recording of the Columbia loss? i have the MC one. i seem to remember it was floating around the net at some stage recently.

update: waved off.

next window.

when is the next window?

at least HDnet is showing some movie trailers..

They are getting ready for a possible deorbit burn at 5:37.

They have begun fluid loading and as of two minutes ago they've completed all but three items on the checklist.

Go/No Go decision is expected about twenty minutes before the engine firing takes place.

I wanted them to come to Cali again. I'll never get to see the shuttle now. Fucking florida.

You wouldn't be able to see it anyways. Edwards is closed to the public for this landing (if they landed there)

If they get waved off a second time they'll land at Edwards because the conditions are completely perfect.
You sure? The news I kept hearing last night was about how they were avoiding California because the extra time/money/hassle of shipping the thing across the country would rule out a September launch for Atlantis. I understand they can't just stay up there waiting for decent Florida weather infinitely, though.

They are going for California.

MC just told Discovery to go for Edwards.

CNN is stupid, they are reporting it as another 24 hour delay. Idiots.

I won't be here for the landing most likely. I may drive down the road to the mountains to the east to see the plasma trail (I'm less than 3 hours south of Edwards).

slightly unrelated, but about shuttles:

I wonder how many times similar things have happened (chunks of the shuttle coming off, tile insulation showing) without us noticing beacuse we never considered it an issue?

OMG, ManaByte Has control of the shuttle!

Yes, it made it through re-entry.

Going to be passing by San Diego in the next two minutes. Lots of cloud cover but I'm going to go out and see if I can see it.

take a camera!

Could BARELY see it through the fog/cloud cover here in North Eastern San Diego, but I could see the faint bronze light of the plasma discharge moving through the clouds.

very cool. I think the entire world was waiting on this.

congrats to NASA and the astronauts.

Hehe. I'm glad they landed, despite my envisioning them crashing nose first into pavement, or the landing gears collapsing under weight...

I was waiting for that to happen. I woke up and turned my tv on to see it enter orbit. I saw breaking news on the screen went ruh oh.

Congratulations and all that, but the sad thing is they never fixed the problem that grounded the shuttle fleet for over two years. More foam broke loose on launch this time, and we were just lucky it didn't impact the orbiter. I wonder how soon before we'll see another shuttle launch.
