An acting legend. I've seen most of his bigger movies. Some of the Hollywood Hokie race relations movies were weirdly astroturfie, but he did amazing considering what he had to work with. Always liked The Defiant Ones.

I think my favourite scene from any of his movies was this one from 'Lilies from the Field' :


It's one of his older ones but the comedy still hits pretty well, despite being serious, which is absolutely rare for something of that period.

We had to watch To Sir With Love in school for a lesson, compared to all the usual stuff that they made you watch that was boring I remember really enjoying it. I don't remember what class is was but I was definitely the "don't be racist" lesson. The whole town was a white as snow so there was actually nobody to be racist towards. Anyway, it obviously worked as I didn't grow up to be racist. Thanks Sid! RIP.
