Sigma or Black?

So I've been playing the Ninja Gaiden DS and its inspired me to go back and play the last Ninja Gaiden on Console. I played the original Ninja Gaiden on X-box and loved it but thought it was too hard to be fun. Now owning a PS3 and 360, the question is should I get Ninja Gaiden Black from X-box classics on marketplace or Sigma for PS3? Does Sigma have the same "easy" difficulty and hidden arcade game as black?

Sigma. Improved HD visuals, more game, etc.

I have the demos for both and what annoyed me with Black is that the enemies kept re-spawning in any area you went back to. They seemed to die the first time you killed them in Sigma...

I prefer Black. Sigma adds some content and of course looks much better, but the added Rachel missions are terrible and the new bad guys are not much fun. The new weapon is cool, but I don't think it offsets the other two. In general, a play through of Black I find to be more enjoyable than a playthrough of Sigma.

I am playing NG:Black on Normal right now, and I am kind of surprised how people have so much trouble with the difficulty. The game isn't easy, but it's much more manageble then I was lead to believe. As long as you conserve potions, and don't waste all your money on upgrades you don't need, you should be fine. I am on chapter 12, and haven't had any real problems in a while. Once you get the hang of the combat, your character is almost unstoppable. I have a very healthy stack of potions at all times, and when Im about to run low a store seems to pop up. So I just buy more.

So far, I found DMC3 MUCH more difficult.

Seriously, playing as Rachel sucked. Why am I forced to play a slow character like her?

:lol so true. she's ok for main game, but the mission mode is just impossible

still, I expected her to be an unlockable character when I got NG for xbox, back in the day. nice to see it only took 3 games for team ninja to add her :P

I think both are the right choice for different reasons.

If you played the original on xbox, I would say Black, it doesnt have the mid-battle loading that Sigma has, plus (this may just be me) but I preferred the xbox controller over the ps3 (shaking it to charge nimpo was just annoying.)

However, if you just want to play through for the storyline, or just a quick easy playthrough to refresh yourself, go with Sigma, the visuals (assuming you have an HD set) are a huge improvement, plus the DLC is there if you want it.

My main suggestion is to try it on normal at least. It might be a pain at first, but just get used to blocking and rolling a lot early on, and you should have it. Ninja Gaidn was meant to be harder, easy is almost too forgiving IMO.

Well can't say I've played Black, but you probably can't go wrong either way; the game(s) is (/are) great! :D

Finally good to be able to browse the forums again after the ban. :P

Black won't run at 16x9? Even if it was made for 488P I thought they would at least support widescreen.

It does. I have it running widescreen on my 360. I beleive the images in the HUD are stretched, but the game itself is not.

In terms of gameplay, Black is more sound than Sigma. Every hardcore Ninja Gaiden player will tell you that Black is the superior (and more difficult) version.

If you want better graphics and slightly more varied content, get Sigma. If you want a more hardcore experience, get Black.

I would go for Sigma, rebought it last month (Gave my old one to a friend)
And it still looks and plays great. Black is more hardcore but I would go for the updated graphics :-)

I was under the impression that Sigma was somehow better suited for free form? I haven't played it myself, that's just what other people have mentioned. I've also heard that Sigma was slightly nerfed.

Ninja Gaiden Black is supposed to be played on HARD. That's the difficulty where you get the extra content thrown in.

Black is the superior version IMO. Sigma shipped with less content, random loading, and V-Sync issues that weren't seen in Black. I didn't like the feel for Sigma either (did not play all the way through, hated Rachel tho), but maybe that's because I was a NG veteran on the old Xbox controller.

Well, Sigma currently is the last NG on a console, so......

Dragon Sword.

Anyhow, I would say Black because of the fond memories, and who they hell wants to play as Rachel anyway?

I guess if you're just a graphics whore or if you better enjoy the PS3 controller I would go for that.

SIGMA! The exclusive Dual katanas combine the best of the staff (NG: black) and the dragon sword making it easily the best weapon in the series. This plus the PS3 graphical upgrade is well worth the $30 you can find Sigma for.

sigma is the final version of a great game. no reason to play the inferior version when you can get an all out improved package to satisfy all your needs.

no contest.

I say Sigma. I'm playing through it for the second time currently. Probably my all-time favorite game. it has a bit of screen tearing and weird load times that Black doesn't, but its still a better game in my opinion. And playing as Rachel..it's not horrible. Not great, but I've grown to enjoy it as a change of pace.

Sigma , no brainer.

Edit ; Or you could just wait until june and pick up Ninja Gaiden 2...i would probably opt for that option.

sigma

-pretty good visuals
-rachel playable
-next gen bouncing physics
-dual katanas
-new bosses
-some new music tracks
-much more missions in mission mode
-dlc

dual katanas rock!
