Sigma or Black?

no contest.

According to Itagaki, Black was the final version of a great game. I'm not saying Sigma is bad, it's just not the 'definitive' version by any stretch (the opening cutscene is missing for crying out loud). So there is a contest.

Of course I'm sure SOME of the people saying Sigma 'no contest' have never played Black. They are both really good and upgraded graphics is the only true advantage going for Sigma. It's still a port at the end of the day. A really good port tho.

Edit: Here are some other links for thought:

it's not the defintive version because of one single missing fmv ?!

how can black be the defintive version with all the cutscenes missing that are new in sigma?

If a version of a game is missing content then it really can't be the 'definitive' version now can it? Cutscenes are not the only content missing from Sigma.

I would classify the game as a port (a really good port), not a remake (but maybe I don't understand the definitions properly). The game wasn't re-built from the ground up and the graphical inconsistencies in Sigma testify to that.

Again, not saying that Sigma isn't a good game. Not saying that at all. I wish people would have bought Sigma in numbers equal to DMC4 but sadly, they didn't. It's simply my OPINION that if you can only own and play one version of Ninja Gaiden then it should be Black (assuming you own both consoles). Sigma is just not the slam dunk de-facto version for this game as many are alluding to. If you only have access to the PS3 then by all means buy Sigma and then buy a 360 for NGII. These games are that good.

comon, thats not even a cutscene, its an one minute blackscreen with the dragon swords sliding through the screen & murais blablabla

in sigma you have practically the same shit in textform while the game is installing,so its not really missing at all

Why would you buy black unless you were broke?

Sigma is the definitive version. You can find it for $30 with a little effort, this sure beats the $15 DRM ridden SD version.

Not to mention the DS is the better controller for this type of game.

:lol

NGB is 480p, Xbox 360's great scaling makes it looks pretty much like it was an HD game already, and from what I hear, it runs better than Sigma. Why waste the extra money on something that doesn't perform as well and only has some extra things which really don't matter (Rachael sucks)?

Black can be found for $25 on Ebay and is becoming rather collectible.

The controller type is highly subjective. God of War is one of my favorite games on the PS2 and my hand cramps after about an hour of play. I can play the much more button/control intensive NGB on my 360 controller all day tho. However, the DMC4 demo definitely felt a little strange to me on my 360 pad...

You'd also buy Black if you were of the opinion that it was the definitive version to own, not only if you were broke. :D

Sigma does not run worse then Black and looks 100x better.

It looks marginally to amazingly better depending on the level. And yes, V-Sync issues and random loading (mid-battle sometimes) are present in Sigma.

Edit: I'm done debating. Go buy the game no matter the system. It, in my opinion, eats DMC and GoW for breakfast (and I LOVE God of War).

I like Black better. Both are great games, so you cant go wrong with either. Black is harder, and I enjoy the challenge. Sigma looks better for obvious, but Black has held up well and it looks great still. I hated playing as Rachel. By the time I played Sigma, I had already played Black for countless hours, so playing with the ps3 controller felt awkward at times.

All right... I played both original NG and Black to death on the Xbox, and I just recently bought Sigma. I have to say I am greatly disappointed in it. Too many corners were cut.

Sigma...
tears like mad
loads when enemies are on screen
has 480p cutscenes
is missing a lot of graphical flourishes from Black in the titles screens and pause menu
has continuity problems arising from the changes made
has annoying motorcycle guys
has crappy-looking water

In return for that, you get sharper textures, different (not better) designs for some areas, one cool new weapon, and the mediocre Rachel missions.

If you can get it used for under $30 and have already put your Xbox in the closet, I'd say it's just barely worth it, but not otherwise.
