The official Ritual website has word that SiN Episodes: Emergence will be present at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Visitors will be able to check out Ritual's baby at Microsoft's Games for Windows booth, located at 7144 Central Hall. Several of the biggest upcoming PC titles will be shown at the booth in a push to re-establish Windows as a major gaming platform. CES 2006 will take place from January 5 - 8.

Can't say I'm impressed with that footage...

It looks like a Half-Life clone without any sort of real hook. Aren't demos of this sort supposed to show pieces of the game that make it look really appealing? I mean, HL2, Doom 3, and even more recently, Prey all presented some pretty interesting looking sequences. The gameplay shown here all seems a bit dull...

We'll see, though. I'll certainly give a shot.

people are already downloading 600mb demos off live so i dont see why 2GB for a full game would be more prohibitive... microsoft needs to release a bigger hdd already!

I'll definitely check this out if it comes to 360. I don't get why 2gb is too big for the Marketplace? I could have swore I already downloaded one demo that was nearing 1gb, and it didn't take very long at all.

Well, we don't keep our demos on our hdd forever so that room is easily replacable. If SiN Episodes comes to 360 via the Live Marketplace then you have 2GB of data you don't want to get rid of, on only 13GB of space. It would be nice to be able to get a hard copy back up, especially when you will be paying money for the game. I can back up my games on Steam, so I'll get it from there.

Assorted impressions.

-I hope they weren't playing it with the AI "working" (the game features autoadjustable difficulty).
-The shotgun is pretty violent.
-Some models need more polys (check the NPC near the end).
-The melee animation is pretty stiff.
-No gibs. This is a very, very bad thing that goes against the ultra-bloody first game.
-The phosphorus grenade rocks, but it needs some flash.
-The voice acting is odd but I can't judge it properly as English is not my first language. Are they trying to "fake" some accent?
-Fuck bump mapping, health dispensers are the new lensflares.
-The big mutant is pretty cool.
-One of the coolest things about SiN was shooting someone's head off and get his body armour intact. I can't see the enemies dropping their vests =/

After being burned by FEAR I think that I'll wait till someone gets the game first. It hurts me to say this, but so far it is not what I was looking for.

I totally agree with all of that, FP.

While SiN is certainly a very dated game by todays standards, this doesn't really seem to keep any of that spirit alive. Like I said, it's a Half-Life 2 rip-off...but doesn't seem as exciting. I really hate to say that, but that's exactly what I got out of that video.

I'm still curious, but my interest has dropped significantly.

I posted my GAF message on Ristualistic's board and got a response:

-I hope they weren't playing it with the AI fully adjusted.
It looked like the dynamic difficulty was at near the lowest setting. Playing an area to show it off is completely different from playing an area to blow it away.

-The shotgun is violent. I dig.
Wait until you see the alternate fire.

-Some models need more polys (check the NPC near the end).
Garrison has a touch-up pass coming.

-The melee animation is pretty stiff.
Which one? The pistol, scattergun, or assault rifle?

-Needs more blood.
Blood effects are getting a touch-up.

-No gibs. This is a very, very bad thing that goes against the ultra-bloody first game. I would reconsider my purchase if the final game doesn't feature SiN's over the top violence.
There was no gibbing shown in the video. There may be limited gibbing in the v1.0 release.

-The phosphorus grenade rocks but it needs some flash. I don't like the yellow glow either, it feels out of place.
The grenade effects are currently being touched up.

-What about a few more screams for those grunts?.
I'm not sure if we have another pickup session scheduled or not.

-The big mutant is pretty cool.
You say that now...wait until he's kicking your ass...

-Not the biggest fan of health stations.
Does the fact that they're refillable change your mind?

-One of the greatest things about SiN was shooting someone's head off and get his body armour intact. I can't see the enemies dropping their vests.
As a result of Blade's mutation in SiN, he's grown fairly significantly. Even if the enemies did drop armor, it's doubtful he'd be able to put it on.

-I don't like the interaction with the environments. Objects should be a little closer to the camera when picked up, and aiming your weapon while climbing should be a thing of the past.
We're still tweaking how you hold objects, but we don't want the objects to completely block the player's view unless the player is picking up a couch or something like that.

As for aiming while climbing, we do have flying enemies who will come after you, so we have to give you some way to defend yourself...
I feel kind of relieved.

So, this is gonna be released on Steam via "chapters" am I correct? Is it gonna be like 5 bucks per update?
You are correct, but the price per chapter will be $15-20.

pretty much agree with dark and funky 100%

the game seems like a TC of HL2 and that's DEFINATELY not what I expected from this...except for the mutant and some of the weapons, it didn't even LOOK like SiN

the eye tracking and facial animation is bad...just bad...

the rag doll is a bit wonky (but still looks good) and is that autoaiming? the original kicked ass for being the first FPS I played that punished you for *barely* missing a headshot by less than an inch =\

The fire effects look bland and fairly similar to HL2, as does your means of putting enemies on fire, and the radius of the explosions that put enemies on fire is too large for the explosion sprite/effects.

this movie killed my enthusiasm (and fuck spelling if I got that wrong) in ways that I didn't think it could...I think my initial impression that this looks like a HL2 TC is what I fault it for the most...it just doesn't appear to have that SiN feel if that makes sense...

enemy voices need to [be] cheesier :b
