i feel like this place has gone to shit of recent. i really like reading this forum but stepped back from posting as much. if i ain't here then the only option is reee or reddit and both them are a fucking mess. it's a shame to see this place go downhill too.

just look at the tag i've been branded with by the power tripping banhappy mods. i don't even own a console lol. i have no interest in ever buying one. that's what you get for saying something negative about sony. no doubt i'll be permabanned for speaking up.

I couldn’t find a way to reply to whatever mod banned me from the Hellblade 2 thread so I am posting here.

I wrote that I think that it’s a downgrade and that the graphics are not great since Horizon 2 looks better while being cross gen.

Nothing else.

if you get offended by a simple opinion like this it’s your problem not mine.

I don’t care about console wars and Horizon 2 is not a game I am looking forward to play.

If we are back to this childish moderation, will neogaf have any chance to go back to what it was 10 years ago? @EviLore


Get better mods, last time it cost you most of the userbase.
Ban people that get offended on nothing not people that posts opinions regardless of unpopular they are.

99% of the console war flames come from people that get offended because someone said something not great about their favourite console, this is the type of user you don’t want in your commmunity and the more they are the more console war flame you are going to have.
if the situation is getting worse is because the moderation is failing.

Come to Gamefaqs forum, my friend. If you get moderated there, you get 3 chances to appeal the decision and can have it overturned by directly engaging with the original mod, and two others. I was told this place was more open, but I have been reply banned from several TLOU2 topics due to stans reporting me here. Stay away from the politics and current events boards though. Neogaf was right to shut their own down.

My bad. Insomnia is a bitch and I finally just decided to get up, so I am not all together yet. I thought you were the topic creator responding to me, but he's been banned. It's not "advertising" another forums, It's more like telling that user to go somewhere else by specific name.
EDIT: gamefaqs, as bad as it can be, is still better than Ree, twitter, and Reddit.

It's not to protect ourselves from ourselves. Why would anyone care if one user is not super nice to other user. Nobody cares about that. So it must be to keep advertisers on the forum.

And the thing I will never understand it - Why advertisers avoid porn/nsfw/offensive boards etc?
The fact that I watch porn, does not mean I am not a customer for your product. I can watch porn, be an asshole on the internet, be way too passionate about xbox or playstation... but that changes nothing about me consuming the products being advertised lol.
Companies want to look all holy and clean? Is it about the image? but there is no difference!
It's the same reason why you can't swear on youtube and post any even slightly offensive stuff. To not scare the advertisers... but I am not a "not buying anything caveman" when I act like one.

I am probably too naive and the forum without heavy moderation would turn to hell quickly.

As long as mods know when someone is joking or being sarcastic it's all good (not easy but yeah)

We have one side saying, "you were shitposting in the Hellblade thread."
The other side saying "you were shitposting in the Horizon thread."

Anybody that enters any of those threads and does not post something along the lines of "Most amazing game EVER, " or has a slight critique or dissenting opinion is treated as a troll and is most likely banned from the thread or given a warning.

Shit like that creates an echo chamber here.

We all know who the shit posters are, I would gladly name them if I knew I wouldn't get banned. These people aren't here for discussion, they never were.

I see your point. I just don't think what you're describing is an echo chamber. An echo chamber is where all points of view aside from a protected one are ostracized. That's different from an atmosphere in which the threshold for tolerable criticism is set so low. I mean you just said it yourself-- there are people on both sides getting banned.

I'm not saying it's good, but that's not an echo chamber.

Also the fact that you're having to use demonstrably untrue language casts dubious light on your claim

I disagree. Hyperbole does not always equal trolling, and it would be better off us to ask for clarification before we jump to the report user feature to silence them, but that makes too much sense I guess. If we just start shutting people down for MAYBE trolling without inquiring further, we become resetera. Is that what we want?

They usually do, but I have had a few overturned as well, so it's a nice system every once in a while. It's about having the opportunity to prove your case rather than just being silenced out right via guilty with no chance of proving innocence.

It's funny; you say other people are easily offended, yet here you are (well, WERE here) running to make a thread to complain for a shit-tier post you made in another thread that added nothing to the conversation going on there, and offered nothing to try supporting that opinion.

Combined with what is, most likely, a very dubious post history on your part, the consequences of your actions were yours alone to bear but so sensitive you don't even want to take personal accountability for sub-par posting practices.

Take the time away to cool off and not be so obvious, you can only go up from the bottom. Or, not. You could just choose to rest there if that's your thing :/.
