Slim(mer) CRT from Samsung to drop in June (Um, look out, it'll probably hurt)

So since I'm in the process of moving, I'm naturally in the market for a new, HD-ready TV to replace my old workhorse of a Samsung, which has performed admirably over the course of 7 years, but is starting to show its age (the little, silver round things on RCA jacks are *not* supposed to come off.). But now I'm pretty much putting the brakes on that plan until June or so. This is a Samsung 30" widescreen CRT, with a built in HDTV tuner. The latter almost makes it worth the ~$1200 price tag, seeing as how those are a little pricey in their standalone form. Although I'm sure it'll drop below that price point soon after it launches in June.

The kicker - for me at least - is that it's "less than 16" deep", making it, you know, manageable to move around, which I'll be doing at least once more this year.

Check this sucker out (Courtesy of Designtechnica):

Do you know how much it weighs?

The built in HDTV tuner is nice it will save $200+ dollars, that being said I have been very diassapointed with Samsung's HDTV CRT picture quality on previous models. Hope this improves on it.

yeah, check the weight.

When they moved from goldfish bowl CRTs to flat screen, and then to widescreen, the weight went up, because the glass had to be thicker to support the increased pressures of larger/flatter tubes (you lose the benefits that curvature brings etc)

So this may actually weigh just as much/more than other standard TVs.

If you are going to stick it in a corner, don't worry too much about depth. If you need it against a wall, then its worth considering.

Ooo, very nice. The price isn't actually much higher than what you would pay for a same sized CRT, especially since you can get it at a discounted price from the MSRP.

That's a valid point, but there's a fine balance between weight and sheer size. Lifting a 50lb weight is fine, lifting a 50lb box (say, for a moment, a perfect cube measuring 24"x24"x24" would be a little, well, awkward to say the least.

So if they can get the dimensions of these things to something reasonable (and I think a depth below 16" is a great start), I can probably handle a TV that weighs as much as a minifridge.
