I just got it for my GBA. What's up with Mario's momentum?! He either keeps falling off or bumping into Koopas. I used to be much better at this...

Any advice? Am I doing anything wrong?

Jump? If you're going towards a cliff and you can't stop, jump and keep holding back. You'll jump out over the cliff, then change directions mid-air and fall back safely on the ground. Same thing with goombas, you can probably land on them too. Or just lightly jump and come back down on top of them.

Come on, this is Mario Tactics 101!

The Mario momentum felt perfectly natural to me back in the old times, but now I usually have the same problems you describe when I try to go back to them. Just practice, I guess.
