Okay--I'm two hours in, and I've just finished the first boss. I got a second Magatama, which I immediately ingested.

Now, the manual, whose only purpose seems to be to tell me to buy a strategy guide if I actually want to know the rules of the game, implies that I can somehow unequip Magatama, so that I can get a set that's advantageous to me when going into boss fights. But it doesn't seem to say exactly how I can do this. Can I un-ingest Magatama? Or am I just stuck with one once I ingest it? Or is this something I'll find out later on in the game, by meeting someone or getting some kind of special "vomit Magatama" ability? (If I'm going to find out later, then just say "yes," but don't spoil me.)

When they say "ingest" magatama, its basically their way of saying equip. You can ingest magatama multiple times, whenever you equip one over another it just removes the previous one. Just think of it as equipping.

You must also try to watch your exp points.

For example you want Skill A from magatama A, and at this moment, magatama B is the best for a particular area. When you are about to gain a level, unequip magatama B and equip magatama A. When you level up, you will learn Skill A easily.
