Mines installing right now, few questions:
Is a keyboard and mouse neccessary, or just a keyboard?
Does it support wireless?
Im a newb in MMOs... whats the right player and job to pick?
1)Just a keyboard.
2)Haven't heard one way or the other, but I'm leaning towards "no" as sometimes those require their own drivers (or at least drivers that may not be provided by the game or the 360). Couldn't hurt to try, though.
3)There's no real "right" one, as it will really depend on your playstyle and what type of role you'd like to play in parties. But, to help you out, here's a list of the races and starting jobs:
Races:
Hume -- Male/Female -- Humans of Vana'diel, overall a "Jack of All Trades" race, so they'll be able to perform rather well no matter the Job you choose, but won't excel in any area. If you start in Bastok with a Hume, you'll receive a ring.
Mithra -- Female Only -- Catgirl race of Vana'diel, right behind Humes as the next-up "Jack of All Trades" race, though they have a few stats (DEX & AGI, I believe) that set them apart. Still, like the Humes, no matter which Job you select, they'll perform rather well. Start in Windurst and you'll receive a ring.
Tarutaru -- Male/Female -- Race of ultra-cute runts, they'll excel at mage-type classes due to their stat-leanings, and be a
little bit crippled in melee/tank roles. Still, there are many, many successful melee Tarus in the game, as you can offset any set-backs with relative ease. Start in Windurst and you'll receive a ring.
Galka -- Male Only -- Big, brute race, they almost look like a cross between a gorilla and an armadillo... or something equally weird. They'll excel at melee/tank roles, but have a bitch of a time performing up to par with the other races in mage-type Jobs, due to their stat leanings. While it's not impossible to be a successful Galkan mage, they'll never really match up to the other classes, and look severely gimped (especially in MP) in comparison. Start in Bastok and you'll receive a ring.
Elvaan -- Male/Female -- Elf race of Vana'diel, they're right behind Humes & Mithra as the third-most "Jack of All Trades" race. Their biggest downsides are low INT & AGI stats, but it's slightly offset by their increased MND & STR stats. Overall, they'll be able to perform relatively well no matter which Job you choose. Start in San d'Oria and you'll receive a ring.
On the ring bit, you don't
need it, but it'll be helpful when starting out, or leveling other low-level Jobs in the future. You need to pick the nation I suggested to start out in for each race, to receive the ring, but after which you can travel to another nation of your choosing and change your allegiance at any time (though there'll be a substantial fee, most of the time).
Jobs:
You'll have 6 Jobs to choose from when you first begin:
White Mage
Black Mage
Red Mage
Thief
Monk
Warrior
Whichever you choose, you'll receive the starting weapon for that Job (ie: an "Onion Rod" if you choose a White Mage), and a starting spell if you're a mage. At any time during play, you can enter your Mog House and select the option to change your Job... If you choose to do so, all of your progress for the previous Job will be saved, so you can switch back at any time without any loss taken to your Levels, Skills, Spells, etc.
So really, even if you dislike your choice of starting Job, you can simply run into your Mog House (located in the "Residential Areas" in each portion of your starting town) and change to something else. Just experiment throughout the low levels until you find a Job you enjoy playing.

played last night, all it made me do was think "this is my 3rd attempt, and it's still shit compared to WoW" *runs*
Yeah, that was necessary. :|
Not surprised about the Xbox Live kiddies, though... In a way, I'd like for more people to give the game an actual shot, as some people end up really enjoying it; but on the flipside, if it means people like you just mentioned, I'd rather they stay away -- far, far away.
