Looks like in Cali the highest is somewhere around 2.75? Oh wait just check californiagasprices.com.... Some station in Sacramento is $3.36?!?!?! Wow.... The missus actually commented last night that if it gets over $3.00 in our area(Southern MD) she might actually park the truck. This morning we woke up to $2.27 and $2.32 at two close places(Mobil and an Exxon), I go to a Chevron a bit further up the straight that's usually a good 5-7cents cheaper...

It's only a 30mile trip one way for me to work and my Accord 130,000 mile strong continues to get excellent gas mileage... I keep saying I'm going to buy another car... but I just can't bring myself to get movin on it....

Note to international forum members: Yes we know gas is more expensive outside of the US, blah, blah, blah, that's not really the point.

EDIT: Argh would a kind mod shift this to off-topic? Thanks!

@5.92 here in Sweden and yes I know that you said you knew that gas was more expensive outside US but as they raised the prices here today I just had to post it.

And yeah, move it to Off-topic.

It was 2.19 or so for the cheap stuff yesterday here in the Midwest. I didn't see any gas stations this morning.

A Shining Example
It's $2.65 for premium near me Darien (I'm on the Baltimore County/Harford County line). It costs me over $50 a week to pay for gas so I can get to and from work and that's not counting the weekends.

This shit has gotten completely out of hand. I finally had enough of it and I organized a little car pool that should go into effect shortly.

I fill my car about once a week. 22 gallon tank = 50 bucks. Even with another dollar jump, that is only 22 more dollars out of my pocket. I spend that much on lunch sometimes.

It would take 4 dollar gas to make me change my habits (Oh no! I hope OPEC isn't reading GAF)

Paid $2.40 for 93 (89 and 93 were both $2.40 for some reason) out here... I nearly shit a brick when I saw gas prices... didn't realize how much they were increasing!!

I paid $2.29 for 89 octane last week. Not crazy prices yet, but still--thank God for my ten-minute commute to work.

That would be $300 a month! I would have a pretty big problem with that.. That's a PSP every month.

Good lord.

Gas is like $2.10-$2.20/gal here but that pales in comparison to the equivalent of $5.92/gal. I'd be paying over $80 to fill up my tank.

That's what I have to pay to fill up my Audi... The thing is - about 70 % of the price goes to the government for various punitive taxes on environmental grounds...

It's a blast living in Communist Sweden! ;-)

And we have to wait for months for games to get released here.

Welcome to the rest of the world.

You have no idea of how spoiled you are with gas-prices.
I guess cheap gas is as important as the right to carry a gun in the US.

All of the developed countries need to cut down on the use petrol really fast or we are in even deeper trouble.

That sucks. Why do I get the feeling that 3-5 years from now gas in the US will be closer to what you're paying? :|

Benedict: Yeah yeah I know. I don't know how you can afford to live with gas being so expensive, though. How will we will be able to cut down on our use of gas? Everyone has to drive.

I think hydrogen fueled cars are the future honestly... but that's not until at least 2012, and who knows how long it'll take for them to become popular.

I would agree with the high taxes if all of them went to research of alternative fuels, but most of it goes straight down the goverments pockets.

Which is a shame since we really need to beat Norway

If you drive a car that needs premium gas and burns through it quickly, that's just the name of the game. Just be thankful we can live in a place where gas going over $2/gallon is "teh horrible crizis!". I'm just that much more glad to be driving my little Protege. Only have to fill it up once a week, bitches! :D

gas is cheap here because there is no such thing as public transportation in 90% of the country. if gas was the same price here as in sweden, our economy would go nuts. A gallon of gas would be more than minimum wage.

I got away with paying $2.19 last night here in Michigan. There were only two gas stations (across the street from each other) that were that low, everyone else is already at $2.30+ and I'll bet that every station here in MI will be at that level within the week. : (

Here's a clue... we DO know... that's not the damn point.

Did you know that, if you spend $30 or more at Coles, you can get 4c off per litre of petrol at participating shell outlets? Alternatively, you can do the same with Safeway/Safeway Petrol outlets.

Just thought you would like to know :D

Gas in Houston is $2.05!! Yeeee-haw!!

One of my co-workers just traded in a huge pickup truck for another huge pickup truck, too!

(a year ago it was apparently like $1.15)

That's pretty cool. I didn't even know Safeway had it's own chain of gas stations... wish some of those were local(Safeway grocery store is right down the street).

And you know what, chances are he'll still feel justified in bitching about gas prices. People are hilarious. One of my bosses is all mopey because he's having to ride his motorcycle to work instead of his big-ass dualie diesel due to the pricing.

What are gas prices like in Canada?
$3US/gal <-- but we're taxed Provincially and Federally on our gas too.. when you factor that out, we're actually cheaper than you guys I believe. Of course, tax is money, so it doesn't work that way. :(

$3/gal, eh? We Americans really can't bitch.

I'll never forget about the time I was filling up my tank and some German dude was at the pump next to mine. He looks over to me and says, "YOUR GAS! IT SO CHEAP! WHY YOU AMERICANS COMPLAIN ABOUT GAS PRICE? SO CHEAP!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA!" I just said "well, uh, what can I say, a lot of us are spoiled I guess." He just laughed.

:lol

up here in michigan, two days ago gas was only $2.31.... I checked yesterday and it's up to $2.45.

I think the Danger Ranger may be in the garage for awhile this summer. Time for ye olde bike to make a reappearance. *ding ding*

I remember it was only about eight or so years ago when gas was only $.98/gallon.

And I don't buy this shit about how Europeans have it worse. Anyone that's been to Europe knows that almost every car there has better mileage than every car here. I'm gonna keep bitching until Santa Clause delivers me a hybrid that gets 50 miles to the gallon. And it has to be the Mercedes of Hybrids, too, a la Chili Palmer.

I filled my Mini up yesterday for $2.69/gallon (premium). The same station was $2.65 in the morning. :p It's one of the cheaper stations in the area too.

It cost me $30 to gas up my Pontiac 6000 yesterday, $2.09.9 out here in the sticks. When I was in Winnipeg this weekend I saw some places charging almost $1 (CDN)/Litre for gas. Fuck.

These gas prices are completely absurd, and we're getting screwed. :|

Yeah, a lot of powerful people are getting even more rediculously rich off gas/oil prices. Funny thing too, since oil dropped a $1 a barrel.

It's at $1/L here in Newfoundland.. and we have one of the biggest offshore oil reserves in the world. No fucking justice there.

Proximity and prices seem to be negatively correlated. Here in the coastal LA County area, there are several refineries, and the gas stations right by them are about 10 cents more than stations farther away.

Its around the $2.35 mark here in the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale area ...

all I want to know is when can I nab myself one of those electric cars???? If they're already out I would really consider buying one before I drive home to Philly (1100 miles) ugh ... thats gonna be a pain on the wallet ... any word on those things? Does any car manufacturer actually make such a thing?

Electric-only cars are pretty much duds. GM totalled the last of their EV1s not too long ago. I don't think you'll see a lot of research put into such cars.

There aren't a whole lot of pure electric cars for different reasons ranging from poor mileage to pollution by proxy. If you're seriously considering getting a "green" car, your best bet is a hybrid. Honda has a Civic and Accord available with a gas/electric engine, as well as the Insight. There's also a Ford Escape hybrid, and there should be a Lexus SUV hybrid out soon as well. Also, the Toyota Prius.

Toyota has released some hybrid cars that have gotten really good reviews here in Europe.
It's both electric and petrol. Some have mentioned it as car of the year. Can't remember the model name though.

I think that when you drive under 50km/h its on electric, and over that it's petrol, gas.
The electric engine also recharges when the car is running on petrol (I think). You can prbably also alter this switch if you want to.
