So, how's WOW? Is it a good title for someone who's never played an MMORPG before?

I've never, ever played an MMO game before. I haven't because for one, I've heard that these games can just eat up your time in an instant. And another is that I've heard that as a "newbie", you are constantly victimized by other players.

So, is World of Warcraft a game for someone like me?

I'd have to say it's the best MMO you could join as a newbie to the genre. You may get addicted, and you will lose a ton of time, so careful.

Yeah it is. Completely unlike EQ for instance which was much more daunting. The lack of XP loss on death makes WoW perfect for those new to the genre (and makes it a lot more fun even for experienced players).

It's the first one I've ever played, and I highly recommend it so far. Easy to learn, but obviously complex to master. And yes, it's a total time sink. But a pleasurable one. Looking forward to playing it with other GAF people even more.

So when you start the game, how does it work? Are you automatically thrust into the virtual world and are a potential victim for any other player or monster? Or is there a starting point and training?

And how do you play with people you know. I never did understand what PvP and PvE actually mean.

There is a training zone. All the quests you get for the first 10 levels or so are to teach you how to play. If you are on a PVP server it is Alliance vs Horde so you start on the side of your choice. You want have to be woried about being killed unless you go into contested areas which dont come till lvl 20 or so. If you join a non PVP server then you dont have to worry about it at all.

PVP = Player vs Player = Fighting against other players
PVM = Player vs Mob = Fighting against the computer monsters

Is there a particular server where you can play with everyone from this board?

Check the ONLINE BOARD everyone...sign up now or express your interest because we're starting a GAF server very soon.
