I actually didn't expect this, there was some pain in the back and I just went in to get it checked out. My dentist and the nurse didn't say shit... All of a sudden, I'm getting a needle in my mouth and they're pullin' out scapels 'n' shit. o_o

It all went by pretty fast. Gotta keep this guaze on for another hour almost, and I haven't eaten breakfast yet...

I'm gonna starve, aren't I?

Anyways, when the anesthetic wears off, should I expect God-awful pain? Gimme a pain rating from 1-10...

I'm hungry... :(

Pain shouldn't be so bad, but it'll feel awkward having that hole and it can be a bitch if food gets stuck in it.

Advil works for the pain.

BTW, talking about Advil... where's MAF?

... That's kinda how it went. :/ They weren't being very vocal with me. Struck me as odd.

I'd be pissed.

Though at one point you never thought "Hey maybe I should ask why they're shooting me up with crap".

Maybe they are in the business of selling Wisdom Teeth to the black market in China... maybe your teeth will ground to a powder and used for sexual enhancement...

I also find it weird that they were not talking too much you... maybe your teeth had cancer?

How bad was the pain you were having before? Could have had bad decay or could have been on its way to root canal territory...who needs wisdom teeth anyway.

I'm having two of mine pulled very soon. After watching my mom finally have her's pulled out and she survived,I cant wait to get these annoying things out of my mouth, even if I have to suffer through pain.

Haha. Well at that point, I did know what was going down. They just didn't lay anything out for me... I mean, damn. Gimme some prep time. The whole surgery was odd too, the doctor was sitting there trying new methods on me 'n' shit. Even had that stupid ass nurse digging in my mouth. :|

Anyways, I'm alive. I just hope the pain won't be too bad...

... And that I'll be able to eat. Go damn it I'm hungry.

The day I made the appointment, it was swelling a little, but the pain wasn't serious. I had never experienced any problems with my wisdom teeth before, so I didn't know what to expect.

What the hell? During an operation like that, there's the possibility of your jaw locking up permanently (or something like that). And they didn't tell you anything about them taking out the wisdom teeth? That's insane.

That said, I got my wisdom teeth pulled out about a year and a half ago. I don't remember too much pain (although I stayed home from school for about a week) but you really learn to appreciate being able to eat whatever you want after you're better.

[edit] Actually, the risk was permanent numbness, not locking up. Numbness is supposed to happen in something like 1-2% of cases. The specialist that did mine says that it happens to about one of the patients he operates on per month.

You do know you should eat soft food for a few days?

One tip: APPLY ICE

This is to prevent swelling. Works like a charm, you'll be eating normally in a day or two. At least I did.

When I had my teeth removed, I had to wait for about two weeks before they did it. The only instance I can think of that they'd do an immediate surgery is if you either force them to (like last year when I had a sinus infection that I didn't know about that made my jaws sore, I had the dentist give me a root canal anyway even though he couldn't find anything wrong with my teeth) or your teeth are in such horrid shape that they'll affect your health (completely rotten teeth can spread to your jaws and give you blood poisioning, oddly enough.)

I didn't have any pain the day of surgery. But I had a ton a few days later. I was careful, but somehow I developed dry socket and it woke me up in the middle of the night. Not even normal pain killers can half the pain of dry socket.

I had mine done a few months ago, it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
The pain is at it's worst when the mumbling subsides after the operation, i only ended up taking 2-3 vicatins, after that i just lived with the dull ache. The cause of the aching are the stitches, once they dissolve you'll be relatively pain free. Just make sure not to use straws, smoke, or have oral sex for a few weeks.

Honestly, the worst part about it was not being able to eat solid foods for 4-5 days.

I had my wisdom teeth yanked before they ever came in. They plopped me in the chair, administered a local anesthetic, cut my gums open with a scalpel, cracked the tooth, then yanked it back and forth with a tool that looked like a pair of pliers until the bastard broke free. Rinse and repeat, until all 4 were gone.

It felt a little strange laying there wide awake with a guy cutting my mouth open and yanking my head back and forth. Regardless, while the motions involved were a bit spastic and almost violent, it didn't really hurt (despite spitting out a decent amount of blood the rest of the day).

Actually, they should have written you a prescription for Vicodin and included it in the bill. Did they?
They did. Effects kicked in a little while ago.

I had all four of mine out in May, and I made damn sure I was put under for the whole thing. Interestingly enough, they didn't bother stitching it up. It hurt for about two weeks, and there were a couple days where I was really swollen, but it really wasn't too bad. The worst pain wasn't from having the teeth out, it was from how much my jaw muscles hurt from the surgery. It was more of an inconvience than anything else.
