So I'm going to ship my custom PC...

I plan on removing the cooler, GPU and HDD. Then I will fill the entire case with non-static packing peanuts. After I will put the case in its original packaging (along with components I didn't remove) and fill in the space with bubble wrap or whatever else.

Should my PC be okay?

I understand they're non-static packing peanuts but putting them in the case seems like a bit much? It should be fiiiiiiiiiiine without the peanuts

I had my PC shipped to me (even with the GPU inside) from NCIX. They packed the inside of the case with bubble wrap and custom-fit sealed air (air pillow).

It really might not be.

I've shipped built PCs by freight. The interiors were completely in pieces on the other end.

Ideally, you'd want to take all loose components and place them packed separately.

Box within a box style for ultimate peace mind.

This is what I did when I had to return a monitor. I put it in a small tight box with those tiny airbags, then I put it inside another box that fit right around it. It made the perfect box armor.

I would be more worried about the person who handles the package.

Bought a built PC from ebay some time ago.

Lets just say the seller didnt think things clearly and left all components connected to the motherboad/PC case....oh god everything was damaged.

He didnt put any padding between the parts. Thankfully he insured it and I got money back.

I just did this (shipped my computer cross country). Everything works perfectly.

Didn't even bother to remove any components from within the case, even though I probably should have.

If you're paranoid about it, I'd focus on more on the insurance than the packaging.

Did you at least remove the video card? That's the one thing you definitely should remove usually

I shipped mine recently

Took out ram, gpu, ssd. Left in cooler but it's a water cooler so it's not really as much of a concern

Ram and ssd probably not a big deal but if you have a strong gpu like a 980ti/1070/1080/etc then you shouldn't even consider leaving in it, those things are so damn large

Packed the PC in the box the case came in, then packed that in a big box filled with air packets.

Came across fine

Don't be like me! I was lazy and only took out the GPU, but you should really take out all hard drives and RAM as well (my HDD and ram got corrupted-> BSODs).

If you take those out and pack separately, everything should be fine and works when you plug them all back in.

Question. How do PC OEMs do it? I've never seen them ask customers to rebuild their PCs on the other end.
And saying that, if your customers are having to put the PC together on the other end, why even go to you to get one built....they can just do it themselves...

They either have brackets that hold everything in place, they will use cards and CPUs without massive heatsinks, or they have space filling air cushions inside the case that you take out before use.

I have shipped my personal built PC from USA to Japan, and then, from Japan back to the USA. I just remove all addon cards, like AIO cooler, video card, sound card and etc. Took out storage device and individually boxed them. Tied down any loose wires. Left the CPU and memory on the MB since they are held down and won't move. Didn't fill the inside with anything. Once it arrived, put everything back together and it runs just fine.

Well, he walked 2 more meters to throw it in grass instead of concrete... That's a nice effort.

I'd unscrew everything and pack the pieces in boxes, but I may be overly cautious.

I don't really understand filling the inside, though. What for? If there's something loose in the case, then something already went wrong... :/
