So we may never get The Wonder Years on DVD?

I downloaded a torrent of Season 1 from.. y'know.. that place where stars blow up. The show is surprisingly as good as I remember it. But there aren't any seeds for the torrents of Seasons 2-6.

So I went around to see if there's any progress on DVDs. Apparently the licenses for all the music will cost so much that they couldn't possibly profit from sales, unless they're ridiculously popular.

What a fucked up world. :(

Isn't there a 'best of' disc out there somewhere? Not that that's very good, but it's something.

Yeah, I saw that. But I'd much, much rather watch the show sequentially, y'know?

Celicar, your poor judgement seems to apply to entertainment as well.

They can't afford the licenses for the Jesse & The Rippers songs.

:lol

LOL, and all the Beach Boys appearances.

I could definitely go for some Full House on DVD, though.

The best of disc only has the last two episodes.

Anyway, this truly is a tragedy because The Wonder Years is the greatest television show ever. I'll continue to hope that someday it will appear on DVD. I've been tempted to get one of the bootleg sets, but I'm afraid of wasting a pretty big sum of money on something that could be poor quality. Does anybody actually have any of the bootlegs?

I'd like Full House on DVD eventually, but right now it's not really worth it. It's only like four times a day. The Wonder Years isn't even on TV right now, at least not around here.

I'm going to guess the DVD sets are made from the eps available on the exploding star. If that's the case they aren't very good quality.

What a fucking disaster :( I have all the eps on my computer but the quality sucks... we need these DVDs!
Hey, I'm not concerned about quality at the moment. You need to upload that shit! At least the first couple seasons or something, for the moment.

Let me know if you're willing. It's really easy to do.

Couple things:

Freaks and Geeks - I remember really enjoying this show. Would you guys recommend the DVD, or.. is the show consistently strong? Does the last episode have any closure or was the series ended abruptly?

Oh, and I just watched the pilot. Linda Cardellini > everything. I completely forgot how beautiful she was.

Undeclared - Another excellent show, made by the same people, that ended way too soon. Apparently it's going to be released on DVD. All 17 episodes. Dunno when, though.

I just got into Undeclared, tucked away on one of the UK's digital channels. Was wondering where it was tonight, chances are it's already finished then! Doh!

Slightly OT, but I met Winnie in 1999 at E3. She was a presenter at the AIAS Awards (the first ever award show for video games). She's incredibly hot (especially since I--as I'm sure many mid-late twentysomething men--lusted for her as a early teen) and incredibly intelligent. IIRC, she's got a Master's or Doctorate in Mathematics. o_O

Oh, and the requisite pics:

I cannot stress how awesome this series is from start to finish. The DVD is a must-buy. The last episode does leave some loose ends, but puts each of the characters in a new place in life.

Freaks and Geeks is like the best show of all time. Seriously. The last episode has a season finale like closer feeling, it's good enough... though as a loyal follower at the time it was very painful :(

Why would it cost any more now than it did back then to use songs in the episodes? Granted that was network tv, but the dvds would be pretty popular I imagine.

WTF? People actually watched Full House?

On the original topic, I don't see why Wonder Years wouldn't head to DVD -- pretty much every series worth anything (and a bunch that aren't) seems to be making the leap.

Not that I'm concerned, but it looks like Full House is indeed coming to DVD.

Now where's Perfect Strangers and Night Court? I'm grateful to have Sledge Hammer, but I need more 80's TV.

So yeah, I'm beginning to see why the music licenses would cost so much. 3-4 famous songs each episode. Amazing. I'm actually beginning to think that The Wonder Years is responsible for why I recognize so many classic songs and never know why.

The show itself is much better than I thought it would be. In that, it's as good as I remember it, despite the fact that the show centers around junior high life. Almost all the episodes have a poignant quality and some pretty good humour.

ie, when Kevin joins a band and is about to play at a party-

Kevin (narrator): What do you say when finally confronted by a hero of rock n' roll? In the flesh?

Whinney: "Is that your sister's shirt?"

Hahaha.

Wonder Years was simply genius. A channel up here was reshowing the episodes a few years ago, and it still held up. It was all about that hot teacher that Kevin had a crush on...too bad she only did a few episodes.

The show I want on DVD is Early Edition...I haven't seen it since it went off the air in 1999, and I miss it like crazy. There are very few shows I've watched from it's inception to it's conclusion, and just as few shows sucked me in and made me look forward to each episode as much as this show did.
