So who picked up MVP?

I posted some brief impression in one of the other threads.

Too lazy to even link us? :lol

You must hate the game! ;)

I'm waiting for the Feb 360 update to see if this makes the BC list.

I bought it for PS2 since I'll get MLB for 360.

But one thing annoys me. The fielding control. The on-screen indicator to throw to the base shows the button when the default controls use the right stick to toss to a base.

I do like the new batting control, and the ESPN stuff is awesome (streaming ESPN radio from the net!).

It's college baseball. Thats about all that needs to be said.

Who gives a shit? if it plays a great game of baseball.

This is our only real choice right now.

I'll see if I can pick it up tomorrow after my failed attempt today. I'll be down for some online play too, PS2 version...

I'll be getting it for PS2 this weekend.

Someone needs to go online and test how it plays.

I tried to pick it up but Target let me down. Playing a new baseball game in January just rules, not to mention, shorter seasons to play through. I'm also looking forward to creating a few no-name scrubs to *ping* that shit like mad.

Oh yeah, hopefully it plays pretty well too.

This game has last years rosters... grrr. Also, Ive heard the stadiums are all a bit off... but I've hear our Rider truck made it into the game, so thats awesome. A bunch of UT fans park along the street that butts up against the right filed wall so we can drink. Park a bus or a Rider Truck, grab a ladder and sit on top = free game + beer.

my boy Maroul is on the cover. I feel dirty not buying it, but I dont have an Xbox anymore, and I bet it'll be a while before this shows up on BC lists.

My roommate just got it. It might be me but throwing seems harder this year, maybe because it is a new meter.

.

Tennessee's field is pretty much spot on and when looking around it has everything: the football practice facilities across the street, the massive power lines, and even the fraternity houses look exactly like they do in real life, even down to having the direct tv dish on one house in the right spot. The downside is that there are only like 30 fields.

Are we going to get shafted because it's now an NCAA game? The EA NCAA football games haven't been released here except at a very few locations...don't tell me that's how it's going to be for this now.

I got the Xbox version.

--analog batting is hard to get used to, harder than the vision cone. It does feel good though when you stroke an opposite field hit. I'm having trouble pulling the ball though.

--pitching is much harder than last year. Harder to hit the corners and get calls.

--haven't tried the new High Heat-style zone hitting yet.

--I like the power/contact options in batting a lot.

--Ole Miss's field is very, very accurate. I don't know about the other fields, but they definitely got Ole Miss right.

--Ole Miss is an A+. Good job EA.

--after 3 games, I haven't seen any glaring problems that would ruin the game.

--haven't played online yet.

Does it have a 720p option?

Yes, but slowdown awaits you. It does not look much better then 480P and some aspects like the infield dirt look worse. This game took a step backward from MVP 05 in the graphics dept and it was not exactly a looker in that area to begin with, outside of the animations. The horrid shimmering/flickering around the grass textures is still there in abundance.

Some of my issues "outside the gameplay" I posted elsewhere.

"Graphics which I mentioned yesterday seem to have taken a step back from last year, which were not that impressive to begin with. The create a team feature and create a stadium features are way too limited for a game that only offers half the teams. I can't even come close to recreating Dan Law field (Texas Tech) because of the limitations of 3 styles of stadiums (small, medium and large). They should have added the ability to customize the stands, dugouts and change colors of these areas for your team. Plus add some school related signs and fictional ads for the fences. The custom stadiums simply feel baren and a large oversight in my book. Whats even more confusing is the only scoreboard with the video replay screen is the small stadium.

Also noticed you can't edit players height and weight. I know for many this will not be a big deal but as a fan of college baseball I wanted to try and get a few rosters (Tech/OU) correct.

It just feels rushed in the college aspect of the game. No chants from the croud, no rivalries, no fight songs as best I can tell. The crowd is simply a lifeless teetering blur. They should play some CH 2K6 and take note how crowds should be done on this gen. Heckling is also a BIG part of the college experience and it does not exist.

I would have gladly payed $49.99 for a couple months more work and some extra elbow grease to give it even 1/4th of the college atmosohere of what CH 2K6 and NCAA 06 offer. I mean yea I love the ESPN college intro music but they even cut that short. It's a start and hopefully at the $29.99 enough people buy it so we can see a next generation version of a college baseball game."

I figured as much, I was hoping they'd speed up the 720p this year, but I knew it wasn't likely. Disappointing nonetheless. Do people think the gameplay improved at all to make it worthwhile to get it? I hear the pitching isn't as easy, which is a good thing, as it was too easy in '05 IMO.

It's worth it for the price tag. It would help if you enjoyed the college game and how regional, super regionals and the CWS are done. I prefer the college game to MLB so it was an easy call for me. Plus I prefer recruiting over drafting/FA signings.

Many people are loving the load and fire but I prefer the zone hitting myself. I think both are better then last years MVP hitting model.

you are right on with what you said. I too have the xbox version...Not sure I am a fan of the "lock and load" system.. but when you do time it right it does feel good..

I have no idea about college baseball so I am not sure if they nailed like with College football.. more scoring and more hits.. but not sure if that is normal... (I would assume it is)

just picked it up, but fucked up and saved over my network settings and now I can't get them back, so I'm stuck playing offline until I figure it out.

One thing that annoyed me about the analog throwing was how strange it felt in the infield for close plays. I switched to "classic" and there was bigtime lag in response. So I think I'm not so interested anymore, though I really like some of the new animations and dynasty.

Impressions after 1 game in Dynasty:

+ I tried Load & Fire, but I was either way too early or way too late, so I'm on Classic, which feels great. I'm also using the Classic throwing option.

+ First game was a 3-1 win for me (USC vs. USF), and I had 13 hits and 3 errors. It feels pretty easy to hit, but I think its because the CPU pitcher is modeling a college player and not a pro like in 05. The patterns are easier to pick up.

+ PING is great. I hit a 476 ft home run with my only real power hitter. I sat on a high and tight pitch and drilled it over the right field fence.

+ Animations are great, very fluid and realistic.

+ Mike Patrick is a great announcer and really adds to the feel

+ Pitching is harder, but for the better. The pitcher has less pin-point precision and the actual on-screen pitching zone is smaller, making it harder to hit your spots.

+ Pause menu is improved. It's a small thing, but its nice to have everything on one screen.

edit: the lag on the Classic throwing mentioned above is there. In 05, you could hold the O button while the fielder was still in the animation of catching the ball and then the throw meter would pop up immediately. In 06, sometimes this happens, but not every time. Sometimes you have to wait until after the animation is done before you press O. Its a little annoying now, but it will require only a minor adjustment.

Overall, it is great fun and I'm happy to have a new MVP. MVP is my annual sports purchase (like Madden is for some) and at $30, I'm happy to support the dev team. I'm not happy with the different exclusive licenses, but if the MLB license hadn't been snatched up, we would have never gotten an NCAA game.

I picked up the Xbox version yesterday. I've only played two and a half games, but I'm liking it so far.

I'm having some difficulty getting in the game, since it is a college game and the names are all fake. Like others have said, the college atmosphere doesn't seem to be there. It is a pretty bland playing experience, to tell you the truth. Pitt's stadium is completely wrong. I think it is called Twin Bridges Stadium (obviously playing off all the bridges in Pittsburgh) and it looks to be the bastard child of PNC Park and Forbes Field. I guess the developers figured that Pitt played all its home games at PNC Park, but they don't, so I'm going to have to create Trees Field.

I don't really care for the new lock and load batting system. I guess I haven't played around with it enough, but I switched to classic and I actually find it is quite a bit better than MVP 05. It is good to see that EA improved the classic system while still implementing a new system. I'm sure I'll get back into the LNL system as I play more often, as it seems like it will be a pretty rewarding experience.

Likewise, I don't really care for the new throwing system, either. It doesn't feel quite as responsive as the classic throwing style. I find that even when you do get off a good throw on the meter, there is a good chance of it being errant. Also, it doesn't seem to work if you press the stick to whichever base before you catch the ball. You have to actually catch the ball, then start the throwing meter. That kind of sucks and has resulted in quite a few advanced runners at my expense. I'll probably just stick with class fielding/throwing. I don't see analog throwing as that big of a deal.

One glaring weakness I've found is that everytime there is a foul ball hit behind home plate, there is some major slowdown. It is a bit annoying, especially if you are trying to flag down a popped up bunt or something.

Basically, if you liked MVP 05 and can do college, buy it.

I'm gonna try to go to Fry's on my break today and pick it up. Any of you PS2 MVPers wanna face off tonight? >:O BRING IT

Cougars 4 Life

OK I just got worked in my first game online since I didn't have a way to turn of LNL and the STUPID ASS BASE THROWING. LNL is alright, I can get used to it, but the right stick to throw to a base is just retarded. Anyone know how to edit that before playing online?

I like the ESPN integration, it's cool they actually have audio. I'm liking the game so far, but the updated controls suck IMO. Classic FTW

Ding ding ding!

Even though the gameplay is sick awesome, the game as a whole is boring me to tears. I know they had to cut back on the stadium atmosphere, since college fields don't have booming sound systems and snazzy homerun celebrations, but they forgot to implement the crazy drunk fans, the team-specific chants, the heckling, and all of the fan-related stuff that makes college sporting events exciting in their own unique way. How about some fans with painted bodies and clown afro wigs? Where are the cheerleaders?

Man, it just feels so deflating to hit a homerun and barely hear a murmur in the stands, with the announcer stating deadpan "... and that's a homerun." Thanks Mike, you're a real tempo setter.

Boring = no sale. Sorry EA, better luck next year. Ugh, now I have to hope that MLB 2K6 or MLB 06: The Show are at least somehwat competent games.

Boring in flash, but I find the gameplay to be more exciting since pop flies don't seem to be as routine as they used to...at least when you chase one down with the sprint button held the whole way. Your bullpen is also limited and it just seems more fun to only have a handful of backup pitchers...
