SOE launches in-game eBay for EQII

Anyone want a level 50 Iksar Fury for $1,200?

From reading, the way it works is you place an item, coin, or character up for sale in-game. SOE charges $1 for items or coin and $10 per character to place for sale. Then when it sells, the money is placed in your PayPal account, after SOE takes 10% of the final sale price.

still not really comprehending SOE's logic in doing this... do they really want a cut of the ebay action that badly?

I guess they're tired of the additional load on GMs by people who were scammed on Ebay. When someone sales a character on their system, it's removed from their account and put into a holding area. When it's sold it's placed on the winner's account. People who sale characters on Ebay actually sell the account and then go contact the CS department of the game and regain control of the account after scamming a shitload of money off the ebay bidder.

Sony should go even further and make crazy ass accessories for sale that you can't get in game. Sword of God - $10,000

This genre really is on a downward spiral. =(

Yeah they almost feel like casino's now. No skill involved; just a lot of luck.

I'm still waiting for the "messiah" of MMORPG's to come. Hopefully that day isn't far off.

This isnt on all EQII servers....its only one 1 or 2. If you are not interested in playing on a server with this feature, you wont have to.

ManaByte, what dept at SOE do you work at? You seem to spread the EQ news around here like no other.

I don't work there. I don't even play EQII anymore but I keep up with what's going on with all MMOs. Mythic just announced the new DAoC expansion Darkness Rising :)

Really tempted to go back to DAoC actually.
