some guy buys naming right to Boston's Fleetcenter for 2500 bucks

Well, for one day.
Drew Curtis of Fark.com with some marketing genius: Curtis bid on one-day "naming rights" for Boston's Fleetcenter on Ebay, and for a $2,500, he won the opportunity to rename the arena, "Boston Garden."
Wasn't that the name of the old arena?

Yeah. But I think the larger point is that after his one day naming, it'll go back to FleetCenter, or whatever corporation ponies up the most money.
 
Since Bank of America bought Fleet, wouldn't BoA have the rights now to rename it? Most likely the Bank of America center? Are they the ones running the auction?

They have given up their rights to name the building. The owners of the building are currently looking for a new sponsor.

I'd prefer they just call it Boston Garden, but that wont happen.
