Well, first off, stop scratching it, you'll make the itch worse! Did you see the bug? What was it? The obvious answer is get it looked at by a doctor, but I assume you live in the states where your health care system sucks and that'll cost you a bit of dough. So maybe get some antihistamines to try to counter the reaction, and put some antiseptic cream on it.

But above all, as difficult as it is, stop scratching it!!

Have you never encountered a mosquito? Use some benadryl or cortizone 10, if you dont have that right now rub on ice cube on it for a while.

It looks like it’s a verdylion (sp?) that has bitten you. They are not very common, but they are not harmful at all. What is growing is an egg the insect injected to your body, it will grow to the size of a peanut and then it will hatch and tear through your skin - you won’t feel any pain though, since the insect also injected a poison that makes your feeling disappear and instead it will feel really itchy.

Couple of grandma's tips:
-Suck the poison out
-Make a cross shaped indentation on it with your fingernails
-Vinegar
-Pee on it

I do suggest to do the sucking first, the vinegar and peeing thing after should you want to try all of the above...
