... thinking about how badly MS fumbled on a chance in making a local PC gaming client like Steam on their own popular OS first, built right into Windows. Would it have worked?

GFWL was such a fucking huge failure because of greed, bugs, corrupted saves and stupid business practices while also not integrating XBL services into it properly. How did these morons absolutely fuck up so badly knowing they were the richest company on Earth at some point and could have dominated the PC space. Oh and then EPIC also beat them to the punch...

... I'm glad Steam is here... cause, God damn nigga.

They decided to go with Co-Pilot instead. They are playing the long game ;p

Must be nice to fund everything with a 30% cut..
 
I think it could have turned out the same way as it did with Internet Explorer. Microsoft faced lawsuits because it bundled Internet Explorer tightly with Windows, giving it an unfair advantage over other browsers. Court decisions in both the U.S. and the EU forced Microsoft to provide more freedom of choice for users and PC manufacturers.
