Sonic Galactic is the 2D Sonic game Sega should have made

But the good thing is Starteam (fan devs) just decided to go ahead and outdo Sega with a new 2D Sonic game that reaches the exact same heights as Sonic Mania and in some instances IMO surpasses Mania...which is no small feat!

Game isnt 100% finished but the two or so hours you can currently play is exactly what you'd want Sega to give us if they were making the game and if Sega is smart they will hand a bag of cash to the Starteam devs and get them on payroll just like they did with the folks behind Sonic Mania

Looks like a mix of CD and Advance. I like it. I can get behind a fangame that's all original. I didn't like Mania much because it was all old levels.

I've had an eye on this since SAGE but wanted to wait for it to be more complete.

Sonic fangames have been getting very good. That Triple Trouble remake was excellent and I'm still quietly devastated that the Sonic Chaos one went dark.

Regarding Sega making a good Sonic game... It's too late, we're too far gone. There's been too many years of bad Sonic games. We live in the timeline where young people think the Sonic Adventure titles were the good Sonic games.

Sonic Mania was fantastic but there wasn't much appreciation for it outside of much older fans.

Doesn't look like a big deal honestly. Alot of Sonic fan made games like to think they would do a better job than the classics using their "take" (some even believe the terrible ones are masterpieces that they can make even better), this isn't the first one I'm afraid.

Meh sonic was never a good game really. 2 was probably the best its ever been and this looks super lame compared to 2.

I hate how every Sonic game, official or otherwise, always starts in an upbeat Greenhill island type zone. I want that direct sequal I've always anticipated to Sonic & Knuckles, that epic first time feel going from Lava Reef Zone Act 2, Sky Sanctuary then Death Egg has never been replicated.

The game does look really great. That boss battle theme is giving off major Sonic 3 vibes.

Superstars had some real bad bosses and stupid special stages but I think with some iteration Sonic Team could get there.

This looks fine, and Sega won't go Nintendo on them so hopefully they finish it up.

I honestly don't know why SEGA had such a hard time making Sonic games after 3/Knuckles.. It's honestly baffling, their complete failure to follow up with a timely 2D game in the style of the Genesis mega hits.

Based on your video, the game looks really good, but my only complaints are that it's too slow and there's too many stage gimmicks meant to stop/slow momentum. I like Sonic games the best when I'm running by so fast that I could barely react to what's coming up in front of me. Just a taste thing really, but we have many other more competent platformers available that focus on jumping physics and puzzles and whatnot, Sonic (in my opinion) should be about speed.
