Sonic Racing: Crossworlds | Review Thread

I hope they fix the music mix, there's too much mid-tones, it sounds muffled, voices and sound effects sounds great, but the music not.
It's like playing music on a bad smartphone speaker, it sounds so bad.

There are a few reports about that so I hope they change it.

And without any Nintendo coefficient, welld one Sega
Yup, the Nintendojo, Nintenderos and the load of Nintendo fan sites shouldn't be allowed to be listed on Metacritics... (not counting the Nintendo fanboys within Gamespot, Edge etc)

So I've been playing for about an hour now. It's fun, but I think it lost something since Transformed.

The races are still very dynamic (even moreso now that the 1st place racer picks the 2nd lap track), but it feels like they veered into Mario Kart territory where the weapons are too good and being in the middle of the pack is a death sentence. It doesn't feel like your skill as a racer matters as much as just getting good weapons, which is opposite to why I liked Transformed. The new boost feels very slow to charge, too, but I've only tried 2 types of vehicles so far (Speed and Acceleration), so I'm not sure if that's just a downside of those types of vehicles.

I'm sure I'll get into it eventually, but right out of the gate it's not beating Transformed for me as the best arcade racer.

i'd love to see this game take off, I just dont see it having legs over time.

I'm happy to hear it's being received well though, maybe word of mouth will lift it.

Tried the demo and thought it was awful.

The driving and drifting lacks any sense of weight. Like it's being played on ice.

You can moan about Nintendo and Mario Kart, but their mechanics are objectively better.

Runs flawlessly on my ancient PC but I can't say the first grand prix/cup seemed terribly exciting even if there's a lot of systems/nuance to its racing you can eventually learn to employ. I tried it at the fast speed after completing it normal too and it was just, I dunno, pretty flat feeling to be honest.

I haven't played MK8 or World but even the Wii's Kart most seem to agree is one of the worst entries for whatever reason felt better to play so I doubt this is any sort of real competitor like it's been posed recently, save for not having anything better on whatever system has it. Even Crash is better.
You'll see 😎
It's the same for journalists or random players:
They'll all change their minds after playing a long time to understand the game, the real efficiency of gadgets, the skill based gameplay (you touch the grass, you're punished. Simple... don't blame the game but your poor skill, guys 😆).
It's Initial D team's first Kart Racer and already a classic.
Period 😎
Sorry, Initial D games are so much cooler and more fun instantly even when you lose. The drifting isn't exciting, the power ups aren't exciting, even the main attraction of choosing/switching tracks mid race or whatever isn't. I won the GP without doing the tutorial, most systems you can easily see even if not fully utilise them the first time (well, you can't even use badges or whatever before unlocking them after the first cup after all). I think the previous games played better, the first one possibly the best at its core even without all the cool transformations or whatever came later in sequels.

Put a few hours into this yesterday. Yea, it's just not as good as Transformed, IMO. The core racing feels bad and the items are too strong, forcing you into stupid chain hit bullshit like MK. I liked the Sonic racing games in the past because they felt more like an arcade racer than a kart party game, at least in single player. The drifting feels awful too.

I was going to refund it, but then I remembered I got it on GMG, so tough shit for me I guess.

Super disappointed.

Transformed was the only one I played and I absolutely loved it, so you saying it's not as good makes me concerned. I'll just have to check it out for myself when the time is right. I'll wait for a price drop and then dive in.

Set the camera to dynamic. that makes it feel more like transformed. That one switch turned my whole view of this game around from a stiff mess to actually a lot of fun. .

I decided to splurge and picked the game up after enjoying the demo. However, the audio is awful. It's the first game where I have to turn down the volume, and I have partial hearing loss and tinnitus in my left ear. The BGM is very jarring at times. I hope Sega addresses this.

So I played the demo and I was a little disappointed tbh.
First up, the handling and overall feel of the racing just isn't as good as Mario kart world, it doesn't feel like you're connecting with the track, it's a weird driving on glass type sensation.
Drifting isn't as elegant or nuanced as Mario kart.
Power ups were a bit meh.
The audio is horrible! So harsh.
What's with all the dramatic operatic singing? I had to turn the volume down.
Transformed is by far and away the better game.
