Sony CEO on 60 Minutes tonight?

I was hanging out on CBS after the game and 60 minutes will be talking to the new CEO of Sony. I didn't know he was a westerner?! I plan on watching this interview...just passing on the word.

Yea, this should be good. I like how she holds the iPod above his head and says, "This is cool. Sony isn't cool." or something like that :lol

Kill her Kutaragi!

WOW. It's already a vs thread huh? What does the XBOX fans have to do with this? Sony will be fine and so will the PS3. You can sleep well tonight.

Very interesting interview so far

Interesting segment. I have alot of respect for him... that part about seeing his family.. man I feel for him.... I wish him luck with Sony. He seems to be getting heartful respect at all levels of the company(seemingly), so we'll see.

The Sony product timeline went transitor raidio, Trinitron TV, and then Walkman. Why they didn't mention the introduction of the Playstation I thought that was a bit odd.

Yeah, he definitly appeared like a nicer guy then I thought he would on the camera.
Also, the whole relizing and admiting they fucked up with Ipod (waiting to make a super secure device) and the their Music Company and the whole disorder between divisions instead of using your other divisions to your advantage.

If that is this new guys philosphy, Sony is once again headed in the right direction.

What's going on? Tell me!
the int is over

overall, they made it seem like Sony is going through tough times right now because the Ipod killed the Walkman, Samsung is cutting into their tv sales, & the xbox is competing with them for the consoles.

uhm, the int. was mostly about how a westerner is running a Japanese company, and what struggles he goes through.

and at the end they showed some products that Sony is gonna be putting out soon like PS3, Bravia tv's & their new walkman. (the walkman looks interesting)

Oh the average Xbox fan would love the opportunity to needle this guy. No two ways about it. And I sleep easy at night regardless. ^_^

Just like a Sonybot would LOVE to see Bill Gates and MS go down in flames. Competition is good and it's great that they hired a westerner. Hope he turns the company around and make Sony's other devisions besides the Playstation profitable. I like Sony TV's and electronics. Both of my HD TV are Sony. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Actually that isn't the whole thing. It goes along with the news story.

Someone needs to post the full video online.

"I have a lot to learn from the Japanese; it's not the other way around."

I liked that quote, and I really respect how determined he is to not totally change Sony, and how he respects their history and how it made them who they are today.

Didn't you hear...Japanese game systems don't count, only Atari & X-BOX. Seriously, have you guys noticed this mentality, especially to older people and in the mainstream media/movies...it's like American video games count, but Japanese don't.

It's always been this way; it's why many still won't admit it was a German who invented the video game. This mentality is quite prevalent with automobiles as well.

Good point, it's like only...Sony's most successful product for like a decade and carrying a good chunk of the company itself.

Awesome interview. Sony is in good hands. I really like how Stringer acknowledged that Sony became successful in a particular way and it can be successful again that way. He is trying hard to protect the traditions of the company and I like that.

I like him. He seems much cooler than I thought.

You people are paranoid. I still run into people that call videogame consoles Nintendo, and that's a Japanese company. They didn't say Playstation because it was mostly about how Sony had losses in 2004 and hired this guy to turn it around. The Playstation 2 was not one of the devisions. And please, Playstation is the most popular name in the US also for gaming. Even in the press.

You watch Rooney at the last section talking about American cars? How Americans are buying Japanese cars? Same show.

Honestly, that interview was sort of depressing. I guess the problems at Sony are just worse than I thought. I guess I don't follow the business end of the companies enough. GT5 movie footage!

oh man, that thing is going to do nothing to the ipod.

Sony should just copy the design as much as possible, and add a couple things.

So that they can then be hated on like Creative is? Although the Vision M I think actually supports more video formats than the Ipod video.

where can one get info on this new walkman?

i'd like to see if it gives ipod a run for its money what so ever.

nothing gives the ipod a run for it's money, heck there are better player sout there, put apple. inulcuded itunes witht he package and that sealed the deal. sony as usual was late for this technology change also.

"The display kicks ass, but otherwise I'm underwhelmed. Small controls and weird overall form factor...no thanks."
what you also don't get from that picture is the size of the unit and the hideousness of the purple unit.

Just to note - those earphones are NOT to scale in most of those shots - only in one (which is almost 1:1 scale) :

it's a big beast! sitting next to the ipod nano in stores makes it look bad (and it's price tag is just as big!

the other issue is price : ¥32,800 for a 20 gig player - which is roughly the same as the 30gig ipod movie player version isn't going to help their case :(

I won one of thier small MP3 players and, besides the utterly shockingly bad software for uploading tunes (Sonic Stage) , the player is very nice indeed. Amazing battery life and good sound.
