SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The computer game units of Sony Corp. and Time Warner Inc. announced long-term licensing agreements Friday that allows Sony Online Entertainment Inc. to develop multiplayer online games based on characters from DC Comics and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's "The Matrix Online."
Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Sony Online it will collaborate with Warner to create a console and massively multiplayer online game with DC Comics characters for a fourth quarter release in 2007. Massively multiplayer online games allow hundreds or thousands of players to simultaneously interact in a game world by way of the Internet.
DC Comics' characters include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Sandman.
Sony Online will also work to enhance services on Warner Bros.' "The Matrix Online" game to make it a massively multiplayer online game.
