Sony was the one who pushed for Helldivers 2 Xbox port, reveals Arrowhead CEO

In a surprise move, Sony appears to be the one that pushed for Helldivers 2 to release on Xbox. In response to a fan on Discord who praised Arrowhead for managing to bring the game to Xbox, CEO Shams Jorjani clarified the situation, saying, "It was all PlayStation. Send them your thanks! We were all in support of course."
Jorjani went on to praise the decision further, adding, "I think it's one of the coolest things they've done. They're killing it," when asked if they expected Sony to make a move like this.
It's a significant shift. While MLB: The Show was technically the first Sony-published title to appear on Xbox, that decision came from Major League Baseball, not Sony. That makes Helldivers 2 the first time Sony has proactively brought one of its own games to Xbox.

From barely acknowledging Xbox hardware to now publishing its most successful live-service title on Microsoft's platform, it's clear the walls around exclusivity are starting to crumble. Xbox themselves are embracing this shift, with Gears of War: Reloaded launching day one on both Xbox and PlayStation, a milestone that seemed impossible a few years ago.

I'm not sure what the big news is here. Regardless of who thought of it first, Sony agreed to put Helldivers II on Xbox. That was the shift in policy. 🤷‍♂️

I am going to expect all multiplayer games from Sony to hit xbox. just like Destiny or marathon. not really sure why this is surprising or news worthy.

I expect single-player games to be PS first and PC later within 1 year or less depending on its success on PS platform

They gotta recoup Concord's half a bil somehow.

I mean in the sense that they still sell proprietary hardware for now, not the same as your usual game publisher like Ubislop, Capcom, EA, you know...
They have both a sizeable 1st and 3rd party business. The focus is more on the first, but the 2nd one is key to increase margins.

That is my point. They made the decision to do it regardless of if Arrowhead brought it up first, or if they did. IMO, that was the news. They made the decision to do it.

I think it's cause earlier there were some folks who kept insisting that there's no way Sony agreed to this without some strong-arming on Arrowhead's behalf.

It's going to sell gangbusters imo.

They should put it on Switch 2 as well.
Game runs on the Autodesk Stingray engine and it's a damn hog, getting it to run on a machine weaker than the Series-S? I have my doubts.
The engine was discontinued in 2018, but Arrowhead are freaks and still used it.

The thing a bout MLB (as per article in OP post), Sony still agreed to do Xbox and Switch ports. They could had just told MLB forget it. And if that means going down with the ship no more PS MLB games, so be it. But they still went along for the ride.

As for H2 Sony owns the IP so of course they can port it. No different than a PC port.

But that would still require Arrowhead agreeing to do the work right? If they dont, then I guess Sony could say fine and one of their internal studios will do it.

I wonder if Sony/Arrowhead already knew from years ago an Xbox port would come. Or if they decided last year after success to do a port in time for summer 2025.

The next Xbox will be able to run Steam, so I don't know why people really bother with this particular port.

Because the next Xbox is probably 2+ years away, and they'd like to make money now. Presumably there are also Xbox Series owners who would like to play it now.

Because people no longer have to buy a playstation console to find out the games are 7/10 and are not the best invention next to sliced bread.

People here were also mad over playstation games hitting steam, and even more furious when they saw the sale numbers.
