24.12.04 - Namco is to work allegedly on the flogging play Soul Calibur 3, which comes in the autumn 2005 into the Japanese Arcades. That announces a Japanese play hall operator. Therefore Soul Calibur 3 is to use the UNIVERSE NET, which is built by Sega, Sammy and Namco. UNIVERSE NET stands for 'Amusement Linkage Live Network' and is an on-line high-speed network, which is based on Optical fiber technology. Officially Namco Soul Calibur 3 did not announce so far; likewise this message was not confirmed by Namco.

I wasn't expecting Soul Calibur 3 until PS3 and Revolution in 2006, at the soonest,

That's still possible. The arcade version is comming out FALL 2005, by then Xenon will be out and PS3|Revolution will launch the year after.

They can hold off until all next-gen consoles have been released and make it multi-platform.

btw Ive always thought 'Calibur' was a stupid change of name from Soul 'Edge' or even Soul Blade.

I also miss the day/night changing cycles of Soul Edge/Blade. bring that back, Namco :)

yeah its possible. the original PS1-based Tekken on System11 came out in fall 1994 before PS1 came out in Japan, so I suppose Soul Calibur 3 could be on PS3-based arcade board. and certainly a Xenon-based board,

Edge
Blade
Calibur
Calibur 2
Calibur 3 :( Is it a fear of confusing people with a different sword name, like with MGS?

Anyways, with the Cube version selling the most AND Sega handling the online, there is NO reason why this won't be online on the Rev/Cube whenever it comes out.

Should be Edge/Blade

but errm.... the Cube version would have sold the most for obvious reasons >_>

I don't care WHY it sold more, it just did. The fanbase is there now. Bundle it with a BBA and include Ganondorf on the disc. +2 sales!

yup

Man, I hope so. Me and my friend bought DOA:U because we were so addicted to SC2, but it was a hassle to go over eachother's houses to play.

If Soul Calibur was anything to go by they may just use a current arcade board (like the one Tekken 5 runs on) but then release a heavily upgraded version as a launch title on the new systems. Hopefully they do more than add walls and some cosmetic upgrades.
