MB : It's doubtful, but I'm writing myself back into the Spaceballs sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face. Why another Spaceballs? It wouldn't feel right have anyone else play Yoghurt and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since Blazing Saddles.

Playbill : When can we expect that?

MB : Best case scenario : a week before the new Star Wars opens. Worst Case Scenario : a year after the new star wars opens.
Yes! And it NEEDS to be called The Search for More Money.

I wonder what originals will return.. Rick Morranis doesnt do movies anymore right? I cant picture anybody else playing Dark Helmet.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed to be related to the prequel. I highly doubt it'll involve any characters from the first one except for Yogurt and maybe Dot Matrix.

I'll be pleased to see anything from him. I got to see The Producers twice with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, and suffice to say, Brooks still has it. He's really getting up there in age though, so if we see this project, it could very well be his last.

R.I.P John Kandy :-(

I know this is great news, but I'm STILL waiting for a DVD version of Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

Indeed, where the hell is this?

Isn't that just a stage version of a movie he made 35 years ago? Not sure if it can really be considered evidence that he still "has it" ;)

they should do a prequel. And then release a SE of the original Spaceballs (of course retitled Episode II).

Actually, in a recent interview Moranis revealed that he will be looking into acting again soon now that his kids are going to be going to college (single dad). He was quick to state his hate for hardcore "just follow the script" stuff, but said he enjoyed his time on the set of Spaceballs and working with Mel because he had a certain amount of freedom in the lines and what he could bring to the table.

So with the passing of John Candy, we probably won't see his character in the sequel.

But how 'bout his son Puke, or his newphew Spew?

:D

It's a musical. Suffice to say, the dialogue is pretty much entirely new. And it's funny. Very, very funny. Outside of the general plotline and character list, they're very different.

He's still got the goods in him. Period.

In the DVD commentary (which was originally laserdisc commentary by the things said in it) it mentions that scenes like the one where Dark Helmet is playing with his dolls were basically left to Moranis to work out, after giving him the basic concept. And work it out he did.

That would SO rock...

I will always remember his interview on the tonight show in 86 when the movie came out and Carson asked if he was making a sequel and he said "yeah its gonna be called Spaceballs 3: the search for spaceballs 2."

Dont know if he was kidding, I am sure he was, but it would be cool.

Actually you could argue that Spaceballs really is "History of the World, Part 2." One of the things that was supposed to be in History of the World, Part 2 was "Jews in Space" which is a pretty good way to describe Spaceballs.

Hournda:

I suppose that's true, but didn't they say Part 2 would also have "Hitler on Ice"? That wasn't in Spaceballs ;-)

Do not need John Candy... it is a parody of the PREQUELS.

Doesn't mean we don't need John Candy :( RIP big guy

This news is fantastic. Brooks will never, nor will anyone else, top the duo of Blazing Saddles/Young Frankenstein in the same year, but we can't let Brooks go without another comedy on celluloid.

"Funny, she doesn't look Druish..."

This news rocks!

If their intention is to get someone to laugh at a movie based on the Star Wars universe then Lucas is about 2 movies ahead of them.

Haha, one of the characters in the movie will be Jew Jew who is a nothing but an annoying Jewish stereotype and tells lame Jewish jokes.

Finally, some decent Star Wars related news.

YES!

Oh and there's no such thing as an opinion on SPACEBALLS. It is a FACT that it is funny as fuck!

The Jew Jew character sounds hilarious all ready.
