Spartacus: House of Ashur - Teaser Trailer

What, did you guys forget about Saxa and Naevia?
None of the lovely ladies of Spartacus, and there were MANY, had a "HER TIME HAS COME" focus because its frankly ludicrous. Who is the audience for a hyperviolent girlboss show? How many gotta come and fail before they hang up on that idea?

If it was just "She is a gladiator fighting to win back her freedom and she is trying to get close to Ashur to assassinate him.....and oh yeah, happens to be a woman" then it might not be so bad, especially if the actress is a real bruiser herself. But this marketing at least is making it out to be a "she's gonna fight the system, show those MEN what a WOMYN can do!!!" nonsense that is a real turn off because it suggests she isn't a character, but rather an agenda mouthpiece.

Damn, Spartacus is one of my favorite shows of all time. Why go the woke angle since the audience for the original show is the complete opposite of woke. Companies hate money today.

And for the "this is FANTASY" guys gonna come in here and rag on us and point to some examples of female gladiators, that is true, but they were the lingerie bowl equivalent to the NFL. Ain't no way IN HELL a woman gonna be able to be a top level gladiator just like you will NEVER see one be an NFL linebacker.

It is fantasy, but that's the problem. It claims to be a historical drama, but in reality it's just a modern fantasy take on Rome. This really grinds my gears because if you're going to make a historical drama then it should be as historically accurate as possible.

As for female gladiators, you're right they did exist, but they were very rare. They also only ever fought other women. There is no documented case that I'm aware of where a woman and man fought. Roman attitudes were deeply conservative regarding gender roles and women fighting men would have crossed multiple taboos.

I LOVED Spartacus, great show to decompress. RIP to Andy Whitfield, by the way the cast also did this to support Andy in his fight against cancer

But this shit is not Spartacus. They can name it the same and mimic the photography it wont change that fact. Shame on the producers of this atrocity.

Wasn't the rule that olympians had to compete in the nude just to make sure no women snuck in, pretending to be a man?

Seems like we need to reintroduce that concept, except with womens sports to make sure no men are sneaking in pretending to be a woman :P

I loved the Spartacus series and it's sequels, but i have no interest in this after seeing the trailer, historical nonesense, just more agenda stuff.

I have to admit, it's really very good.

And yet I started it with a lot of fear but the cast is solid, the writing is well done and it has all the hallmarks of Spartacus.

What I like is that it's truly Ashur's story, the gladiator is just a tool to achieve his goals so if it stays that way, I'm fine with it. I'm still worried that they might make her invincible later on and that the story will focus too much on her (I'm waiting for the inevitable emotional moment when she tells her life story), but we'll see what role she plays.
For now, at least, I have no complaints.

And there's still plenty of sex (and quality boobs as always, special mention to Ivana Baquero goddammit she's perfect), blood and conspiracies.
I'm going to wait until the whole season is available to continue because I'm definitely going to want to binge-watch the episodes.

So far, we are so back!

As someone who watched the original series as it released and haven't watched since, would you need to remember much about it for this series?

Well that's good to hear. Can't wait to watch as I loved the other Spartacus shows and was worried about this one.

Not really, there are a few references but the series illustrates them. Someone who hasn't seen Spartacus can start this show without any problem imo.
Hope you enjoy!

Yeah I was VERY worried too but I'm glad to be wrong. Honestly it's good to see a series not afraid of anything. Episode 2 is BRUTAL lol.
