Bloodstained is an outlier for sure, but it has the advantage of being done by the man who started it all in the first place.
Sonic Mania is a sanctioned game by SEGA, Streets of Rage 4 is a sequel to the actual franchise, unsure about Blazing Chrome (first I've heard of it) and boomer shooters were counted for until DOOM 2016 appeared and shown them how it's done.
But I guess I'm painting a picture of games that legit, from the description, to the look and design, was meant to emulate a classic you knew and loved.
I have no problems with indie games making games in genres long forgotten and hitting the same notes, but it is concerning when it's just meant to make you buy it for nostalgic feels.
Case in point: Yoka-Laylee*
*I forgot how to spell the name lol
