Speeding the right way

Darien's Tips for Speeding:

1. Don't be the only car in the passing lane.
2. If you are with a group of speeding cars try not to be the lead car(unless you're an organized group that takes turns being the leader).
3. USE your mirrors. Look for brake lights up ahead for no reason, look down the road behind you and note if all the sudden people way down are diving to the inside lane.
4. Try not to speed in the passing lane.(ie. use the passing lane to pass... then get back in the right lane, you stick out less), however:
5. Don't aggressively weave through traffic.(makes you stick out).

Actually #3 should really be #1. Other folks on the road will generally give away speed traps for you.

These are EXCELLENT tips. This is exactly what I do, and have only had one speeding ticket (about 3 years ago) in well over ten years. There was nothing I could have done (besides not speed, of course), though, which is what happens sometimes.

I was on the 401 just outside of London, ON. travelling in the right lane with in the middle of a pack of about 4 or 5 cars all speeding (but not excessively). As we passed an on-ramp, I saw 3 police cars that were previously hidden from view roar onto the highway and proceed to pull 3 of us (including myself) over. I thought I would have been safe being in the middle of a group of cars all going the same speed. Oh, well... you can never be completely safe.

Tiesto: I live in Queens, NY and go up to Merrick, LI very often (brother lives there).

Justin: Yeah, I think that's it. It's been 3 years since I've been there, but yeah. I just asked my friend and he corrected me, not jets or helics. Rather, an aircraft which employs VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder). My bad. :p

Edit: Forgot to say that the aircrafts they use are Cessnas. Quick enough at 150MPH top speed.

See thats a bit more realistic then a jet cruising at MACH 0.85 :P

Shit. My car:

I really should have looked a bit harder for a black one. That's the color I wanted anyway. That or silver.

I avoided red and went with my stock white '99 stick bought new and still it has always been surprisingly visible to the cops. Six years and every time I get on the gas one seems to materialize in the 7-11 I just revved by. Heh. Cops in my area know how to mix up their locations.

As for my high-speed parkway commutes, the best advice is to wait for a willing player who knows "right-lane trading". That is, phasing around slow right hand traffic behind a faster car that passed. Then he/she may drop into the right for you to take the risky lead, phase back into into the right lane for a bit, repeat. I know a couple friendly BMWs I do this with regularly in the mornings.

Also, if solo, don't stay too long in the left lane at excessive speed and indeed at all (as the implication is intent to speed ahead in the left lane), and never pass or stay in the left unnecessarily when heading up hills or other blind spots.
