Apparently, the going word is that these are in-game engine. Can't confirm or deny either way, and also I don't know where these are originally from so... don't ask me.

Read an interview here.

Shack: What are Directed Moments?

Daniel Roy: Directed Moments are Splinter Cell Double Agent’s answer to pre-rendered cinematics on the XBOX 360. We decided to blur the line between in-game experience and pre-rendered sequences, and have created a number of scenes, which are fully playable, but provide a cinematic-like experience to the player.

If this was posted, sorry, I missed it. I think it looks great. Please, for the love of all that is holy, keep MGS4 crap and Splinter Cell trolling to a minimum.

Looking at his fingers in the first pic, they seem to clean and no aliasing at all. I would also say FMV but this is Ubisoft were talking about...so I'm reluctant to even call on it yet.

Color me jaded but that just doesn't look realtime. FMV FTL.

Yeah some are arguing it's the cutscenes from the current gen version, and it very well could be. But if not, it's easily the best looking shit I've seen from next-gen.

When i saw Double Agent (in november) it was not this good looking. I think these are FMV, although the parachute-ing section was totally in-engine - i could control Sam's aerial maneuvers - , and that was a version without many effects (like, and its not az unimportant thing for a game like this, proper shadows).

I'd be odd for them to be rendered at 1280x720 though. I'd say pre-rendered cutscenes from the 360 version... though I read the parachutting would be performed on the 360 in realtime.

Color me puzzled.

Amir0x, YOU STOLE MY CHANCE AT FAME YOU FUCKER!

This game looks so strange to me. I can never tell if it's in-game, art/renders, CG, or what. I'll either need to see it in motion or wait for an actual official confirmation.

If it's in-game, though, it looks good and bad, imo. I mean, that would make it very impressive technically, but it still looks like shitty CG to me. I guess it all depends how it animates.

I got the PM also. The message board that I was directed to (saying it was the point of origin for these pics) states that these are current gen pics...

Actual gameplay footage is not exactly abundant at the moment. What is featured in this preview are screenshots taken from the current-gen game build.

However, we did get to see some high-res Xbox 360 shots (which we unfortunately cannot run). Let's just say that the game appears to make sufficient use of the advantages of the Xbox 360 hardware. We had a hard time believing we were looking at actual in-engine shots. Ubisoft is really looking to polish the game for Xbox 360 users. We're not entirely sure about the exact differences between the Xbox 360 and the PC version, but we do know that one level (a nighttime mission taking place in Shanghai) is being hailed as an Xbox 360 exclusive. According to what we've seen thus far, the designers seem to have worked their tales off to bring some of the in-game characters to life. Some of the Xbox 360 models look amazing.

Looks real-time to me, but with a lot of filtering to make it seem very prerendered-looking. Looks great, too. I'm hoping that this tops Chaos Theory.

Oh, I think it does, too. But these shots aren't a lot to go on, either.

when they were talking about current gen they were talking about the pictures here:

http://www.actiontrip.com/previews/splintercelldoubleagent.phtml

the Xbox 360 pictures were removed from this website after the german UBIsoft message board posted the 360 pictures. as you can see in the forum link below we see the Parachute scene but its not in the actiontrip link where the article is pasted from

http://forums-de.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/993106895/m/8261095883/p/2

the above forums link is the source of the Xbox 360 screens.

Looks feasible to me, this is being built for the 360 specifically remember.
Not quite. It's using a modified Chaos Theory engine. Now, if it looks like this, imagine when they'll use a engine made from the scratch for the 360 O_O

Ahh ok. There was a disconnect with the post and the screens. So these are 360 screens :D

Definitely looks like CG using in-game art assets (well at least the in-game character model). The landscape in that 2nd shot is just lol no.

Yeah, that'll happen. :lol

Provided this is real time, it would put to rest the notion that the 360 isn't a next gen machine, and it would also further legitmize the PS3 demos as feasible benchmarks for that platform (if not initially, then down the road). Which is why I can't wait for E3.

Look closer, they are pretty basic with awesome texture/shader work. The illusion is amazing in this still but I bet you never get near enough to see them close up.

Anyone who thinks that's real-time is crazy. it's not even necessarily the graphical quality, cg just has a different look from real-time.

Did you hear them using the modified Chaos Engine by Ubi Montreal (PS2, Xbox) or by Ubi Shanghai (PC, Xbox 360)

That probably the "Blur between CG and In-Game" their talking about. I really do like that better than CG models. It will probably make the break between in game and prerenderdness much less glaring :D

So the HALO jumps are interactive cinemas? Does that mean that this quality of graphics will be seen in the main game?

I'm so confuzzled. Ubi needs to clear this up with some tasty new shots/vids :D

Oh and best looking game ever.
