I don't think what you said is really an issue...perhaps you weren't here the last time SC shots appeared? What a cluter fuck that thread turned into.

As for these shots...thumbs up!

my initial thoughts is that it looks like some kind of CG cinema that uses the ingame models and assets, but the quote seems to make it sound like the cinemas wil have some kind of Dragon's Lair/QTE level of control, so maybe they are realtime after all.

Really? You don't think that Kojima goes for movie over gameplay in the MGS games? Why, if he wants to make a movie, doesn't he just make a damned movie instead of unbelievably long cutscenes/codecs with minimal gameplay?

Oh, and don't get me wrong, I love the MGS series. It's just that I tire of the needlessly long cutscenes and such. I want to play more that just sitting there watching cutscenes.

"minimal" gameplay? Fact: There is more gameplay than cinemas in the Metal Gear Solid games.

Because he's not making a movie, he's making a game that happens to also have long cutscenes? And awesome games to boot!

Nevermind, I see this discussion is about to head into retard territory fast.

So holy shit, if this is how 360 in-game SC looks it's gonna be so awesome. Next-gen ftw always.

Just because theres minimal gameplay (which I disagree with) doesn't mean its nonexistent. You've got the FPS aspects, the hiding and the sneaking around. Though, its a balancing act between cinematics and gameplay (tilting toward cinematics).

I just dislike that just because the cinematics are so heavy, gameplay is somehow nonexistent. Just a difference of opinions I guess.

Yeah it is going to be great. E3 2006 going to rock with second gen 360 games being shown. :D

For sure.

HUR HUR MGS AM MOVIE IM A STUPID FUCKER KEKEKEKEKEKe

Argh. Why in the hell can't there be one thread without useless and increasingly far fetched comparisons between the SC series and the MGS series? My thread went down the shitter for the same reason, and to think I took a ban for you lot.

No, gameplay is not nonexistant. Far from it, in fact. MGS is one of my fave series ever. For me though, the long cutscenes just take me out of the game completely.

Here's an example for an ideal cutscene for me:

- Snake has just set off a time bomb and is vacating the building as time is running out. He gets outside, and you make him jump to a secure spot.

- Cutscene begins showing a huge explosion. Trucks and jeeps begin to explode. Stored artillery starts exploding. Camera cuts to snake looking at the destruction occuring.

- Codec sequence begins with snake telling the commander that he accomplished his mission. Commander tells him to proceed deeper into the jungle where he will do his next task

These should last no more than two minutes tops. Again, that is the ideal for my tastes. Also, I don't mind longer cutscenes at the beginning and ending of the game itself.

Damn, I would love it if Konami just gave Kojima the go-ahead to create a full-on animated/cg movie of MGS. Then at least I can break out the popcorn and drinks while enjoying that. Not during the middle of the game, please. :)

So, sorry if I've offended anyone, but I just don't like to be pulled out of the gameplay for too long.

Very possibly realtime. The amount of DOF and motion blur hides any graphical inconsistencies, and these aren't "Gameplay" exactly, they're at best realtime cutscenes with button presses ala Resident Evil 4. Notice how we can't even see the ground in the first shot thanks to the DOF.

If this is what DOF and motion blur effects can do for a next gen title, though, then they can slather it on as much as they want. That is, until Fable 2 comes out and everything looks like your TV is melting.

EDIT: Oh, and an interesting MGS4 comparison that isn't about graphics or the barely similar gameplay. Kojima announced ages ago in his blog that they were doing something very similar to this Directed Moment stuff, e.g. cutscenes with interactive elements. Looks like Shenmue may have been more ahead of its time than we thought (given that it borrowed from Dragons Lair, at any rate...).

If this is in game: Bravo Ubisoft. Bravo.

If anyone could do it too, they could. They seem to really know how to make fucking pretty games.

how 'bout that Splinter Cell? She is too fine. And she smells so fucking pretty. She's got a nice voice, too. And that body? Smoking. You know, she never once said "fuck off," when I was talking to her, or pulled out the pepper spray, or nothing. I tell ya, Lunchbox--she could be the one.

Nah, MGS is great cause of its cutscenes and boss battles. MGS is like an RPG to me, I might not enjoy the gameplay all that much but the bosses and story push me along. SC's have terrible stories, but the games are so much fun to play. I've got two series that appeal to me in different ways, so I'm fine with both.

Now if SC gets a good storyline (which seems to be happening with Double Agent), I might become a full on SC fanboy. We'll see.

There is a new Splinter Cell 4 interview here: http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=9014&type=mov

- 360 version being developed with a new engine by Ubi Shanghai
- PS2/Xbox/GCN version using Chaos Theory engine
- co-op play
- spy vs. spy 3 on 3 battles right from the get go
- you have to infiltrate this sleeper cell
- you will have directives from both the terrorists and NSA -- How do you fulfill both objectives and make both sides happy
- are you willing to sacrifice one life for thousands -- even if it is a friend??

Sounds good.

I should also point out that I blame all games that do these huge cutscenes and not just MGS. :)

If realtime this brings up a very interesting point in reference to Nintendo Revolution; this kind of smooth "movie-like" visuals will show less difference between 480 and 720 resolutions compared to the sharper jaggy-prone "standard" graphics and look good even in 480 on HDTVs.. and that is something I believe Nintendo has thought of in their hardware design and might even be the reason why the GPU is named Hollywood. I am pretty sure Revolution has some clever stuff going on to make graphics look smoother and less jaggy.. only thing I don't like here is the photoshop'ish film grain filter.

:lol :lol :lol

Yeah, because the fact that MS and Nintendo share a graphics card manufacturer means if an Xbox 360 game looks good, Revolution's games will look comparable. Come on, dude.

That looks good for next gen I suppose, but it would look fucking fantastic if they made one minor change:

We need a new Ghostbusters game with a GTA-style open world NOW!

Holy Shit if that is in-game. The second pic is just insane. I'm going to remain sceptical until I see something official from Ubisoft about the 360 version.

There's too many batches ot screens floating around, its hard to make out what's what. Ubi needs to clear this up soon, especially since this is supposed to be a Spring release.

Hmm, that last pic is nowhere near the quality of the orignal ones posted, but it doesn't really have the "game" look anyway. Oh well, I suppose this will get cleared up at E3 (when is this game due to be released?).

why not? didn't know this forum was console specific. I look at those screens and get an idea of how Revolution might make games look great even in SD on HD displays, why can't I post it? It's not like I'm trolling or anything?

How come you have only 15 posts, and you have an avatar, but I can't use avatars?

You can use avatars. People just get confused, 'cause there's an "Edit Avatar" screen in the User CP that does nothing. It doesn't do anything for anyone. It's broken. To get an avatar:

User CP -> Edit Profile -> Additional Information [External Avatar Location] -> Enter URL of where your avatar is (must be 150kb or under).

Oh, I checked that page for an avatar section, and somehow missed it. Thanks a ton.

I was waiting to hit some kind of post number that would open it up for me. Didn't realize I'd cleared 200 posts already.

Sorry for being off topic, everyone!

Apology not accepted. Can we get a ban here please?

looks real time to me... it's just the blur that is... ummm... blurring the lines between real time and pre-rendered. Think of the city in GR:AW... thinking about it blurred off and at night... with proper lighting it could look just like that.

color me impressed.

:lol

I've been thinking about this a bit, and it's been said (I beleive in GI) that the 360 version has no pre-rendered cgi.

Since these were yanked down so fast, that leads me to beleive they're NOT simply cut-scenes from the xbox version. If that's the case, all they can be is realtime.

I'm not saying this is necessarily the case, they very well MAY be shots from the cutscene on xbox 1, but that scenario really doesn't seem to make much sense.

In any case, if there is any company that could pump out graphics like this, its ubi.

EDIT - Ya know, looking at the screens, I don't see why they couldn't be. The halo jumping screen that seems so amazing really isn't showing much detail at all. The buildings all look flat, and the bloom lights from the windows and cars are easy to do. The cars are just specs of light which would be no problem for the system, and the lighting on the buildings is static and could just be a simple lightmap. The character is certainly feasible (looks like an appropriate step up from the current sam). The only thing that is questionable I think is the lighting in the first shot, but even then it's hard to get a feel for how good it is as you can't seem that much.

There's no way thats in the game engine.

It's gotta be CG. No way that Ubi (the Shanghai team no less) could get that much out of the hardware so fast.
