I'm assuming that it takes advantage of loopholes in the distracted driving laws that many states have. It's illegal to use your smartphone while driving but not technically illegal to use this, just like it isn't technically illegal to use the big media console that most new cars have, even though it essentially functions just like a phone.

it’s an effort to strengthen and keep their brand going. Their competitors like Amazon have similar devices. They can’t be left out. Agree that it’s pointless though.
