SSBM: east cost vs west cost

I finally completed SSBM last week, and have been hooked on the N64 version again all this week, but HOLY HELL these guys are crazy

butbutbut smash bros requires no skill to play!
Nice video, although some of the guys in it are annoying as hell

Yeah, seriously. A lot of em seem like utter douchebags. But I applaud their skill. I'm fairly confidant that I could take out a few of them, but then there are others I'm not sure of.

I'm 2/3 through; nice and intense!

32:xx with Peach and 38:xx with Sheik was very nice so far.

(I'd lose 0-40 vs anyone of them, but meh I love Dr.Mario)

Jesus christ...they were just having some trash talking fun. The only douche bags here are you guyz

:lol am I the only one who finds the trash talking hilarious?

DO IT FOR QUEENSSS

Yea, me too. I'm from NYC like some of those guys and that particular line cracked me up the most out of all of them so far. They're talking complete trash but it's funny nonetheless. The West Coast guys are fucking silent though. I think they really were scared to say something back.

What a bunch of annoying fucks. Somebody should have bombed that place while they were all in the same room.
Wow, now thats much nicer.

Well, the end was great. Hope Nintendo doesn't mess with the Rev one. But I suppose they keep most of the stuff so it's gonna be okay.

That was some impressive shit. I gotta say most of the people there would probably hand me my ass over and over.

I do have 2 friends who I learned from(my sensei's if you will) who could compete there. Still a really good video.

Some of the trash talking was silly though. Damn.

I didn't even know you could do half of the shit those guys were pulling off (like the Samus mine save.) I I thought I was good at the game, I guess thats why it's such a good game. And no Pikachu makes me sad.

Am i the only person that doesnt get SSBM? i think its complete shit and I actually bought it a second time to make sure I wasnt missing anything.

Fzero - the only worthwhile GC game these days.

I really find it hard to see how people don't like it.

It can be played as a party game, with just lots of fun and no serious competition. Lots of options such as turning all items on high, just pokemon battles. Also the coin match is a lot of fun as well. I just recently tried it again actually, and enjoyed it a lot.

But it also has a hell of a lot of depth and can be played very seriously.

Personally I like the direction it has taken, with no silly long button combos. Most traditional fighters feel more like a memorization challenge. Smash brothers forces you to actually use tactics and strategy, at least moreso than other fighters. You create your own combos instead of pounding out buttons for a pre-scripted one.

This is all just my opinion though, it's all subjective anyway.

I agree that it has a lot of depth, and there's a shitload to do, but the controls just don't work for me for some reason. To my hands, they seem stiff, and the collision detection seems strange. Viewtiful Joe RHR is a much more satisfying game for me because the controls are much more predictable.

If they refine the controls and add more combos. I will buy a rev. I want a controller to play it online not a fucking remote.

Yes. stfu

I have the same problem as sonn. Something about the controls just escapes me and I can't enjoy it too much. I think what is is that there are multiple states of control stick tilt (i.e. analog directional control), but the gradient is not continuous, you know? I can't tilt it a little to walk and then tilt it farther to run. I have to let it go to neutral and then tilt it far from there in order to run. I'm sure the developers thought it out better than I have and that's probably the best way to do it gameplay-wise, but it just bugs me.

Quick questions:

Do most experts use control stick up or X/Y to jump?

Do any of those guys use Ganondorf or Yoshi and how far into the movie? I've seen some Ganondorf matches and they're always impressive. And Yoshi just requires the definition of a finesse player.

Really? For some reason I feel like other games are more stiff than SSBM, probably because it is one of the very very few console fighting games to make full use of the analog stick. That is one thing that bothers me with 2D fighters, they are still stuck in the D-pad days in my eyes. I feel like I have perfect control of the characters. I always feel like street fighter and GG:XX were sluggish(although great games) but I dunno just personal preference I guess.

The original was definitely a little stiff but I don't get that problem from the gamecube version.

And I see the collision detection as some of the best in the fighting genre. The fact that certain attacks have sweet spots(tip of marth's sword, middle of Roy's sword, etc) are a great example of this. And just how you can catch and deflect items. Overall I never would have thought there was a problem with the collision detection.

I've never really gotten into this game, but it makes me happy to see that people all use different characters to play with. It means the game is well balanced.

I'm only a minute in and the intro and theme songs with "cool poses" from people playing SSBM has already embarrassed me. hope the footage is good.

EDIT: I like the guy who keeps yelling 'Gaaarrr EXTENDER - EXTENDUURR" for some reason during the samus fox fight at the start. He doesn't shame humanity in the slightest. not at all.

Yeah the east coast guys are annoying as hell. The West coast guys just seem to be quiet nerds. haha.

great video, though a vow of silence from some of the players would've been better.

i love ssbm. i didn't play the n64 version much so couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, but the gc version is one of my most played games, ever.

an amazing game with great depth, as shown in this video. i agree the beauty of the game is in it's simplicity. it give you a fantastic sense of being in a battle, a genuine fight.

can't wait for the rev version and online :D
