ssx vs. amped

hey I just got a copy of amped 3 as a gift today and I wondered what people think of it. i like the arcade style of ssx (especially tricky), but i also liked the realism of amped 2. what can i expect from amped 3?

does anyone prefer amped over ssx?

3 is a shift away from 2 towards SSX, which is just stupid, since the SSX3/Amped 2 combo still remains as snowboarding bliss, catering to your every whim. Both of the recent titles (On Tour, Amped 3) really just took steps backwards rather than forwards.

That said, Amped 3 is not a bad game. Not worth $60, but a worthwhile $20-30 game.

ftw!

I just saw it got 4.9 from gamespot.. I can't believe it :(

I like both Amped and SSX for different reasons. SSX was a blast to play, especially with friends. We'd take turns trying to one-up each other. Just a blast. Amped was one that I got into for the depth. Much more challenging, more realistic.

Amped 3 is a tilt towards the SSX style of play, which I think is a shame. It has carved out it's own niche as being more challenging and realistc.

is that coolboarders 3 that got a 4.9 or amped 3? i thought coolboarders was total trash.

actually, i just looked, amped 3 got a 7.6. I think shoe from egm gave it a pretty high score, and isn't he actually a snowboarder?

That's the truth, these two are a great combination. I thought On Tour was ok, but not as good as SSX3. Haven't played Amped 3 yet, Amped 2 was high quality. SSX 3 I think is the most fun snowboarding game this gen.

exactly right.

I think there's a new Amped 3 topic every week. I know I made one. It's a pretty fun game that's worth it almost entirely for the amusing and bizarre cut scenes. Really well done. I've had it out from Gamefly for like a month now.

And here comes Jeff-DA to say how much he hated it... ;)

Instead of buying SSX3 I rented Amped 3. I have to say something here....while I see what some people have said about the more generic, easy gameplay...this game has some of the greatest presentation I've ever seen. For me, at least. The joy I felt on the "Zen run" where your tricks are creating Hindu gods in the snow...is indescribably awesome. That is some awesome awesomness. I am buying this game based on that and his notebook illustrations alone. That's in 15 minutes of play.

I don't play these games, but I was struck by how much better Amped 2 looks than even the last SSX game (On Tour).

Yay! Another member of Team Amped 3. We are slowly growing in number...

I was a huge fan of Amp 1 and 2 so when I received Amped 3 in the mail from GameFly, I was excited to play it. Huge disappointment. I just unlocked the second mountain and played alittle bit after that before I sent the game back. Amped 3 didn't have that feel that the other Amped games had.

I never played a SSX game.. so... I'll say Amped 1 and 2 is better than SSX... but, the camera control on the right stick makes Amped 3 garbage and that makes SSX better than Amped 3 in my book. Unless SSX has the camera control on the right stick, then it becomes a toss-up.

Never played Amped 1 or 2, as I don't really like trickstyle games normally. Picked up Amped 3 used on a whim and have to say I LOVE it. While it may not be 'next gen' in visuals, the hi-def makes it nice and crisp and easy on the eyes. I like the open style of gameplay and medal system....and loved most of the story mode (one or two cutscenes didn't make the grade but many I found most amusing). I like the variety in the soundtrack, opening up lots of new items etc. Easily one of my most loved 360 games and I've got most of the well regarded titles apart from any sports stuff.

Anyhow, for me, Amped 3 was a great surprise...and I've finally found a trickstyle game I enjoy. Now, off to get some more GOLD medals, I need to get up them there leaderboards.

Hip hip hooray! I loved doing little 360's on the tuft's of snow near the finishing line on the first stage and just watching my board slice through the top of it so cleanly.. oh what joy that was!
