The latest Game Informer magazine offers a preview of Star Trek: Legacy, a new PC and Xbox 360 game in development at Mad Doc Software (Empire Earth 2, Star Trek: Armada 2) and to be published by Bethesda. According to a story on GameCloud, the game is an action/strategy hybrid one, spanning the entire Star Trek timeline from Enterprise till Voyager. It's not that far off either with a projected release date of this September. There's also a post by Paramount's Harry Lang on a fan forum.

A few things I will say is that it's been a long time coming. Like I said before, traditional ST single player/multi player games have returned - and before STO ships like I also said. And no, just because it was announced in this issue, doesn't mean development just started. As for bugs, well, different publisher, and much more stringent requirements for Xbox 360. And as for graphics, once you see the screenshots and this thing in motion, you will be blown away

Yeah I showed this to my Xbox hating friend, and now he is going to buy a 360 for this game.

He is a big fan of Star Trek. He loved Armada 2, but his PC currently is horribly outdated.

He also wants Battle for Middle Earth 2 on 360.

MS doing a good job securing games on 360. I really hope this translates into big hardware sales in 2006.

Sorry, a bit of a trekkie, hell I loved Enterprise!... I know, Iknow, but she was HOT:)

I think this is a Strat game, there is a Star Trek MMORPG in the works though, for the PC only currently.

And it's coming out by September of this year, no less? I'm not familiar with Mad Doc, though, so can anyone fill me in on the quality of their work?

Speaking of MMORPGs, I don't know why more upcoming PC ones don't port over to the 360. It would seem like an easy way to make money. The PC market is too crowded (or maybe its not).

I'm really looking forward to a good Star Trek game...especially now that Digital Anvil is not going to be making a Freelancer sequel anytime soon and LucasArts isn't exactly making great Star Wars space shooting games anymore.

An old pal of mine designed one of the hidden gems on Sega Genesis - one of the best Star Trek games to date:

I missed it the first time, but I noticed in the Game Informer preview there is also a seperate section about a new Star Trek game coming out for the PSP/DS. Looks like it'll be the same game, but with perhaps more gameplay options in the DS version. The PSP version looks nicer of course, but with the DS version you can use the second touch screen as a command center of sorts for battle. You can move sliders and touch buttons to redirect power to shields and firing photon Torpedos.

The name of the portable versions is called Star Trek: Tactical Assault, due out the same time as the 360 version, and based on the original series. Being developed by the makers of Starfleet Command.
