The Cannes Film Festival is going to the dark side. After months of negotiations between George Lucas and festival officials, Star Wars: Episode III - The Revenge Of The Sith will open the festival in the South of France in May.

It's hoped that Ewan McGregor, who plays the young Obi-Wan Kenobi, will attend, although he'll be about to open in Michael Grandage's new London stage version of Guys And Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre.

They are showing EP3 to snotty Europeans who would rather watch a movie about a deaf lesbian grandmother in the Holocaust getting addicted to heroin and having to be euthanized by her estranged mentally handicapped son. Sounds like a great way to get the bad buzz started!

well if showgirls and The Postman can open at CAnnes i dont see what wrong witht his crap opening at cannes.

Neither one of those movies opened the festival though. Revenge of the Sith will be the movie that opens the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Eh, what Cannes says doesn't matter. They lost all credibility when Farenheit 911 won last year.

Does ANYONE think Episode 3 will be good? I mean, is Harry Knowles' monstrous bulk even on the bandwagon this time?

I hope it'll be good. Everything about it sounds pretty good so far, but the script and acting can still be letdowns in the end.

Grievous was the shit in the micro-series. If he's at all like that in the movie, there's gonna be an awesome duel between he and his opponent(s).

It..."looks" like it might be decent in stills, and the story doesn't seem too bad, but you know it's going to be shit in motion. Georgieboy can't direct worth a shit, and Hayden's acting abilities will inevitably ruin this film beyond hope. But I also know I'll be there at the movie theater...what the hell's wrong with me.

Pre-emptive strike: NO, he's wasn't that good in Life as a House. Jeezus lucasluts, shut up about that movie already, have you even watched it?

You sad, sad people. I doubt I'll even consider renting it -- and I fuckin' rented Chronicles of fuckin' Riddick.

Even the old Star Wars movies retroactively suck.

Well if Star Wars is bad, I'll just take the recommended dose of Batman Begins. :)

Matrix Reloaded almost opened the Cannes Festival 2 years ago (the film that opened the festival sucks even more it's "Fanfan la Tulipe")

Cannes opening movies generally suck.

Yeah I think so. EP:1 and 2 only exist so that 3 could be made. This really is the main story here and from all reports, it seems that everything is far better. But then again, if you go in having your mind made up that it's gonna suck, then I doubt it'll change that.

AD doesn't return until my 21st birthday, March 6th. Two back-to-back episodes to boot!

Anyway, I don't know whether Revenge of the Sith will be great or even good, but I'm sure it'll be fun. The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones have their share of problems, but I still enjoy them and generally like a lot of both. So as long as I enjoy myself, I won't be disappointed with RotS. I think it has a good chance of being pretty decent though.

Christensen was excellent in 'Shattered Glass'. He's quite the slithery, snake-like, character, and there is is a certain nervousness to his voice.
I'm glad he was cast as Anakin Skywalker. I'm not saying he was the most stirring in Attack of the Clones but I have a feeling he could play with the Dark Side well.
As for Revenge of the Sith, I don't know shit about it, despite the persistence of spoiler-ruined fanboys posting the film scenes in their avatars and getting their knickers in a knot over something called 'General Grievous'. I'm with the general GAF population of cautious optimism. Of course I want it to rock, this is Episode Three, the one everybody was anticipating even before The Phantom Menace. I'll be there opening night.

He is a good actor. Direction and writing have a lot to do with how he was perceived in The Phantom Menace.

This is the best approach.

Christensen I believe was selected more for what he'll do in EP:3 rather than EP:2... Also, Lucas did script washes from anonymous sources (rumors point to Shawshank's Frank Darabont) to tidy up the dialogue, and hired the acting coach that did the Virgin Suicides among other things to give his actors a little bit more guidance.

BTW, what's on instead of AD this week?

Darabont isn't really a rumor. Lucas had him go over the script while he was working on Indy.

Fox is throwing a second episode of King of the Hill in. Why, I have no idea. Fox just tries to mess with its schedule whenever possible.
