So I'm watching Free 2 Play, the Dota 2 docu, and one of the players says that ten years ago competitive gaming wasn't even a thing, and right after he says it they show a bank of people at an IEM event playing games, and right there is Khaldor. Can't see what he's playing, but I don't remember him ever mentioning Dota 2. Just struck me as odd. They really avoid mentioning Starcraft or LoL.
Just watched it too. And yeah, that annoyed me as well. They tried to give Dota too much credit by not mentioning the games that came before it. Overall it was pretty well done, though.

Blizzard's new community manager on Blink play:

David Ortiz (Psione said:
After testing changes to Blink in our balance update test map, we felt that altering Blink directly was not a change we wanted to pursue at this time. We’re still gathering data on how recent balance updates have affected the various match-ups, and so far we’re seeing that the Mothership Core vision change has affected certain Blink strategies as intended.

Additionally, we have some changes planned for the Season 2 map pool that we feel will further affect Blink builds in the upcoming season. You can expect more information on the Season 2 map pool changes in the coming weeks.

Sounds like they're moving in the right direction.

Although, another poster brings a good point related to why Blink itself may/should need to be nerfed directly:

Good to hear. Although I'd recommend changing blink at some point, as we'd like blink all-ins not to be so easy, but not to be undoable either. Also would not like map design to be limited because of blink.

Then again, increasing the cost/research time of Blink could solve the issue entirely. Protoss almost always get it based on a timing/all-in. You extend the amount of time it takes for it to be complete, giving Terrans more chance to get Stim, may Combat Shields and more bunkers, and its success rate of said timings and all-ins should go down.

The fact that Chrono Boost exists makes it ridiculous that Blink takes the same amount of base time to research as Stim. I wish they would just up the research time to 210-240 or the cost to 200/200 and just try it on a balance map for crying out loud.

A Reddit poster suggested moving Time Warp up the tech tree. Either make it researchable at one of the T2 buildings, maybe even the Cybercore, or make it a Mothership exclusive.

At some point, Blizzard has to ask themselves why it's always a toss abiliity the maps need to be balanced around. The bandaid race.

Yeah, I said before time warp should be moved. It's silly how many abilities MSC comes with. Overcharge, timewarp, recall... not to mention vision and decent damage.

I really like this idea. Seriously though, the MSC doesn't need all three abilities upon spawning to be effective. Even if it just had PO upon spawning, it'd still be worth making every game.

The problem is like so many other suggestions this would be game breaking. I agree with you and i can think of a few other changes that can really help but they require basically reworking the protoss race. Blizzard just won't do it.

So what does everyone think about the whole Thorin thing?

He was getting death threats and was taken off ESM, sponsired contacted Redeye because of the comments made here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4wVBu7n6aw&feature=youtu.be&t=6m45s

Apparently he also faced accusations or racism which I do not understand?

Duncan ‘Thorin’ Shields has been removed from the analyst/commentary position for the EMS One Katowice broadcast due to his comments about Poland that he made on a recent podcast ‘Unfiltered’.
ESL does not stand by or tolerate acts of racism, xenophobia or other forms of discrimination and does not wish to be associated or employ those who make any such comments. We are deeply upset that a long time member of the esports community would display such ignorance and make highly inappropriate comments about an entire nation.
Thorin’s tirade has offended not only the live audience of the show he was hired to work on, but the entire Polish production team that he was going to be a part of.
I have spoken to Thorin directly this morning. It has been made clear to him that his comments were totally unacceptable and inconsistent with ESL’s ethos.
It is unfortunate that we have to do this on the first day of the EMS One Katowice show, but we are hard at work to replace Thorin on the show and rest assured are determined to bring a great show regardless.

What time stamp are we talking about, I am at 12 mins now and not seeing it? (specifically people saying he is racist? His entire rant against Poland included about how they have somewhat overt racism)

omg that stupid train-destroying mission

omg so annoying

omg why did they even make that

Random guess on the map pool next season.

Yeonsu - stays (one I'm the least sure of)
Polar Night - gone
Frost - gone (although I think it's one of the better balanced maps)
Daedalus Point - gone (although I don't think current version is that bad)
Heavy Rain - stays
Habitation Station - altered or gone
Alterzim Stronghold - stays

It's pretty easy really if you just mass diamond backs. You don't even have to engage those marauder groups walking around. Having a full bunker in your main helps with those attacks they do in the middle as well.

That is exactly what I did. I even got a ghost nuke one train for shits and giggles. I just hated the whole design of the mission. So many forced timing/engagement gimmick missions in this campaign. It's so stupidly linear, not so much hand-holding as drag-you-by-the-hand.

I agree i tend to hate those sort of missions. I also don't really like the odin escort mission. At least it's fairly easy once you know what you're doing though.

Train mission? I thought it was kind of cool. On Normal. I can't recall if i played it on Hard, i played many missions on Hard but at some point i gave up (might have been final mission).

That said, i don't like time-limited missions generally speaking. Hearth of the Swarm has even more such missions. I want to build my army and take time doing it and then sweep the map at once.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I hope Alterzim stays. We've seen some of the funnest games on that map and it's reasonably balanced for all matchups.

I read that Blizzard LOVES Frost. It's gonna turn into the next Bel'Shir Vestige. I expect it to be in the map pool for the entirety of WCS 2014.

In practice I think Time Warp is usually the lynchpin of very strong timing attacks, but it's not an absolute necessity like early game photon overcharge or the ability to recall. Moving Time Warp later in the tech tree should let the MSC do what it is ostensibly meant for: scout, support early aggression, defend early aggression. The thing it wouldn't be able to do is give an inexpensive turbo boost to blink and immortal all-ins.

I hate how trial and error the missions are in WoL, most of them are barely even RTS (or rather do not have economic management being a part of the focus)

I'm trying to think where the latter is actually the case.
CnC series, nope (just keep the tiberium coming, no different from Starcraft 2). CnC Generals, nope. Starcraft 1, nope. Warcraft 3, nope.
EDIT this is, assuming normal difficulty.

I never found WoL (or HotS) missions to be trial and error.
Generally speaking the Woorloog-standard, turtle and build an army works well (and if it doesn't, i don't actually like the mission, a few exceptions aside).
Miss the CnC Tiberian Dawn idiot AI from other games though, its inability to destroy walls was hilarious.

(My friend has different style of play, usually favors a small, long range attack group, and that works well according to him. Perhaps he is more micro-focused, not sure.)

I misread your post lol. Personally i would be fine if they removed the ability all together. It adds very little excitement to the game but has so much room to be a broken ability. I also really hate the nexus cannon. It's low skill and discourages harass and engagement between the 2 players. I feel like despite being fun at times the MSC has just added a host of annoying things into the game (being stuck as terran with barely any marines and an MSC in your base is annoying as fuck).

Like many protoss units it needs an overhaul.

everything that happened was extremly silly, to be honest i told my team atleast 5 times that i didnt want to go and that they should make iem get a replacement for me. but my team didnt agree with this and also IEM said that they would highly recommend me to go or there would be consequenses ( this is what my team told me )

i would ofcourse not want to go to waste my time playing a tournament in a game i dont even practice anymore as it was a huge waste of time but as i said i was forced to because of SPONSOR Things, and ironically enough i got kicked out of the team for going there and doing what i did when i didnt even wanna go or play sc2 in the first place funnily enough. but whatever im not sad and i dont really care anymore about that, im sure that if i practice 2 weeks in the future i can make the comeback as the best foreign player at any time if i feel like it.

its a bit funny tho that ppl think other people deserve the spot ( Yes i wanted to give it away cuz i didnt wanna play the tour ) but i won it fair and square by going top2 at newyork, if other people wouldve "deserved it" then they could learn to qualify to tournaments by their own skill

Problem is if you just want to do whatever the fuck you want you probably shouldn't sign a contract for a team that has obligations to their sponsors. This is one of the biggest tournaments in SC2, is it unreasonable for them to want their best and most popular player to actually show up? He makes it sound like he was being victimized when really he was just being held to his contractually agreements more likely.

Hopefully we can get more foreigners to be competitive who aren't complete douchebags about it.

So much salt. He still doesn't get that people are pissed because he forfeited after one game?

And yet again tried to blame it on technical failings of the tournament organisers. At least be honest about your reasons for quitting.

Preach.

NaNiwa really is the biggest clown in the SC2 scene. Hope he doesn't return.

ROFLMAO Nani actually said that?

I think a lot of foreigners have already surpassed him actually. Well at least the form he showed recently. Which isn't hard considering all you have to do is not forfeit. lol

But seriously Bunny is become the new Lucifron with HerOMarine and TLO with Scarlett stands at the top of foreign zergs. Protoss is protoss, too many good ones to count.

..Actually I hope he tries to come back and fails miserably.

I dunno. He is extremely talented, and I would not be surprised if he (rightly so) attributes his more recent form to having pulled a tasteless. I do think it that he is extremely shitty for doing what he has done, but I have always found it hard to not rout for him since he is such an odd duck in the scene, and is capable of beating Koreans. I do wonder what emotional dysfunctions he has, but even TB has said that he is actually a good guy, just very volatile emotionally.

It's arrogant, but Naniwa is probably right about the "2 week" comment.

Still for a guy who calls tournaments "a joke", you would think he would have figured this "professional" thing out by now.
