Another world premiere, FPS Starship Troopers Ultimate Bug War just unveiled its debut trailer during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted, introduced by none other than Casper Van Dien, the actor who plays Johnny Rico in the movies. He seems to have lost an eye, but any sacrifice is a small price to pay to free humanity from the Arachnid menace.

This is a retro shooter that just oozes fun. And actual ooze: there's lots of bug guts on screen, too. Once Rico's patriotic message is delivered, we see the desert of Planet P, where a heroic stand was once made at an outpost overwhelmed by the bugs. It's also where Rico earned the rank of Corporal after killing a huge Tanker Bug.

You'll be fighting using the iconic assault rifle from the movies, as well as a wide array of other bug-killing weapons, from miniguns to shotguns to rocket launchers and even a mech suit.

Edit: oh I didn't maximize so didn't notice there's no texture filtering, hence retro? That looks wrong too, were there any games that were otherwise that advanced looking but lacked basic texture filtering? It's not like that's PS1 level geometry/resolution/effects, it looks beyond Half-Life era PC stuff.

Looks like they set out to make a game with decent graphics but failed miserably and slapped the retro label on it. Sometimes it looks like a PS2 game and other times a N64 game. Like it can't make up its mind.

About the only thing I liked was seeing Rico with an eye-patch, and they got the blood right enough for killing bugs...but not much else grabs me to assume this will be good.

The idea of a boomer shooter with Starship Troopers is to me an obvious thing to do, but I want it to sell me like this game did for its IP:
