Actually not attempting to be a jerk here: what are some of the games that are generally considered JRPGs that aren't made in Japan?

I've seen some games that are "inspired by" or "in the style of" but not ones that a fan of JRPGs would call a JRPG.

from those on steam that are not RPG maker games:
all Zeboyd games
Celestian Tales: Old North
Septerra Core
Anachronox
The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
and probably another 20 I'm forgetting, not to mention hundreds of RPG maker games.

What's the verdict on the Humble Monthly Bundles so far? Worth the $12? At least the contents of their regular bundles haven't seemed to decrease.

These days, HMB is the only good indie bundle. It is not cheap but it is the only way to get +1's that you might play one day.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

But, I mean, are those games that fans generally agree are JRPGs? It's like with anime where a lot of people won't recognize Korra as an anime because of where it was produced.

I think expanding the meaning of JRPG is important personally, because as "game from geographical region" it's useless. But I still think for most people it requires the game to be made in Japan.

As someone who built one of their first PC's just so they could play Half-Life 2, which I pre-ordered through Steam, my first digital distribution purchase ever, all the way back in 2004, people just need to let it go. Just move the fuck on already. That ship has sailed. It's been nine years. There's a whole new generation of gamers that only identify Valve with Counter-Strike, Team Fortress and Dota. Potentially, these newer customers have never heard of or don't care about Half-Life. Valve's focus is pretty clear, it's on their eSports titles, their digital distribution platform and various hardware endeavours not "triple A" game development.

The best these people can hope for is Valve using Half-Life to sell Vive's.

Which now has me wanting to go into that thread and list a bunch of character action games as my top 5 JRPGs, since they all have RPG elements in buying skills with currency earned by fighting enemies and they were developed in Japan. :lol

1. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
2. Devil May Cry 4: SE
3. Devil May Cry 3
4. Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma
5. Bayonetta

Or something like that... :D

D-Did you quote yourself and respond or am I losing my mind?

OK valve, so you logged out me of the store again and I lost all my cart.
That's very sensible way to do business.

all of them have JRPG tag, does it answer your question?
IDK, I agree that they are JRPGs, as they fit definition, but seeing what happened to that genre definition in recent years, who knows what other people think.

Urrrggghhh it's also that time of year again where I normally pick up the newest Footy Manager, bemoan very little has changed since the last iteration but still still do this merry song and dance year after year.

Don't let your dreams be dreams.

For some twisted reason I've got my eye on FM2016 Touch. Could be that it's just stripped out Classic Mode or that it's only a tenner. I've got issues.

Don't forget GODS - Lands of Infinity. Get the special edition that comes with the porn actor.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the LOTR: Third Age and Penny Arcade games used as examples when this discussion comes up, all without much hemming or hawing.

I've played the LOTR one, and I'd agree fairly comfortably that it's a JRPG not made in Japan. I haven't tried the Penny Arcade games and that one dude's transphobic bullshit and subsequent "Well, you know..." type of responses have made it so I doubt I will, for better or worse.

If I go to buy the Monthly Bundle, what games do I get now? I know that if I get the monthly before 4 march I get ARK at least and so far that is worth pre-ordering for me on my end.

My Steam client can't connect to the store...

Happy Lunar New Year~

Also, when did Grav rename itself (to Grav: REBORN)? I didn't hear a thing about that.

In case you didn't know there's this little game that Durante, Stump, me and others think is quite swell...

http://store.steampowered.com/app/370360/
Only $3.49/£2.49 and despite appearances it doesn't require to be a genius to enjoy (I mean come on I enjoy it, do you think I'm a genius?). Go on give it a try, you know you want to (or am I going to have to randomly gift this out to more folks to rally the cause?).

I just can't accept JRPG seriously as a genre descriptor if Cthulhu Saves the World and Final Fantasy VI aren't counted as the same genre. At that point Dark Souls might as well be a JRPG as your just going by country of origin of games with RPG elements.

taking bets, will I be able to finish to fill my cart until I'm autologged out of the store again.
How many times?
When I will give up?

Maybe South Park: The Stick of Truth and Child of Light? I don't really know, just guessing.

Also, there are other titles besides the souls games that don't follow the Pokemon formula, like Xenoblade. Why would Xenoblade and Final Fantasy XII be JRPGs and not Baldur's Gate?

The more I think about it, the more useless I think the term is now.

Sure, but those games are usually not considered to be any kind of RPG, nor W, nor C, etc, so that would probably backfire.

Style of combat, story content and character design, open ended quest structure, etc.?

And I'm always getting in trouble for things that "would probably backfire". If I show up banned, at least you guys can figure out why. :lol

one day Oceanhorn will be $5 and Zombi will be less than $10

one day

Oceanhorn is like $7 through Nuuvem.
