Steam and Xbox suck for me

David B

An Idiot
Reasons not to own a gaming PC or an Xbox Series X.
#1. Some games on Windows require mouse and keyboard for menus and settings. While some games have no controller support at all! Only consoles have 100% controller support for every game!
#2. On steam I only own 44 games. 41 of them I already own on PlayStation consoles. 3 of them are PC exclusives but I seriously don’t care about.
#3. On Xbox Series X I own 143 games I already own or can have on PlayStation consoles. I own 19 exclusives but have already played them in the past anyway.
#4. I own over 500 games across PlayStation 1, 2, 3, 4, 5! Why own other consoles and PC? Besides Nintendo anyway.
#5. While Windows does contain a more likable interface with the taskbar, it lacks iMovie, Photo Booth, Time Machine, Calendar, Stickies, Text Edit, and Launchpad for all applications. All applications which I love to use and are only for Mac.
#6. Consoles are at the point where graphics are the same as a gaming PC. Therefore there is no point to own a gaming PC.
#7. While I like the Xbox controller, that doesn’t give reason enough to own the console that has no exclusive games anymore.
#8. Windows has issues like malware, viruses, slow downs, hacking, blue screens of death, DLL errors, and sudden black screens.
#9. Games on Windows have issues with DirectX, Unreal Engine, modders, multiplayer games with users using keyboard and mouse, DLL errors, exe errors and much more.
#10. I’ve also had issues with Xbox Series X where it has slowed down, freezing screens, black screens, won’t change my background, won’t change my color, won’t change my avatar, and all of the sudden controller doesn’t work at all. I’ve had three Xbox Series X consoles and these issues happened on all three of them.

These of course are my very own reasons and I notice that indeed. So don't make a comment going "Well those are you're own problems, not mine." Because it's a big no duh!!! I'm focusing on myself here, not everyone. As I know very well everyone's own game library and consoles and systems and what games have on what are all very different.

You might not want to buy a gaming PC or Xbox in that case. Just play on the device you like.

are you going to start selling and rebuying your hardware again?
I know I've done so in the past. I won't be selling or rebuying anything. I will keep it all. It's just realizing the truth that oh look, all those games I have on Steam and the Xbox Windows app, guess what? I already own every single freaking game of them on PlayStation consoles, therefore why game on PC at all? But instead of being stupid like the past and selling it, I will just not use it and maybe say in 1 to 3 months go oh no no but but and than put the gaming PC back up again. But this time I have it already and realized I should keep it as I might go the way of but but and turn again. So this time I have it in case I do go but but.

It’s difficult to say anything here, because if you set a goal for yourself, you can find flaws in everything.
But I have a question... With this approach to life, you are not afraid to go outside? It’s just that based on your logic, there are so many dangers there that you shouldn’t go there.

Play on the system you want to play, it you choice and your life…..you don’t need to make long list to convince yourself or others why you don’t like playing on Xbox or Steam.
Good point. But I like to see replies from others on the topic as I just like to see others responses to a certain action.

No I'm not afraid to go outside. But I don't usually anyway unless I'm going to the grocery store or a gas station to buy some pop or some snacks. I'm a big introvertive person, always have been, always will be. Although I made this to receieve responses of course.

I'm not a PC gamer, so I can't comment on that aspect. I imagine some PC gamers will have an issue with #6, though.
#6. Consoles are at the point where graphics are the same as a gaming PC. Therefore there is no point to own a gaming PC.

As for the Xbox, sounds like you have a number of frustrations with it. I think there are still good reasons to own an Xbox (e.g., access to the exclusives it still has, GamePass especially if you're going to be dropping PC gaming), but if you're fed up, no harm in going. It's just a machine that runs games, not a big deal.

Yeah I plan to keep Xbox Series X I have. I own a ton of games I already have on PS consoles. But as I listed 19 exclusives still. And Gears of War E-day is coming next year which is 14 years before Gears of War started in the story of the game anyway. So I'll like that. But I've said it before and I'll say it again... If Gears of War ever goes to PS consoles, holly shiballs!!!!!!!!!! I will never ever ever go back to Microsoft ever again.

Well that explains your post to some extent. Games are made for fun and to disconnect your brain from the problems of the real world, so it doesn't matter what you play them on, just use the devices you like.
Stop going to .ru porn or warez sites then ..
Well, without this, life becomes completely boring and uninteresting, but this way there is some intrigue, excitement :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I have giant libraries on both digital. Tons of doubles too.

Hoping we get movies anywhere type deal for gaming. Ideally, I can use an Xbox controller for all my games including Nintendo and PlayStation libraries.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

Could be a reality in the near future as graphics leap staggered.

I mean just take a look at the current gen consoles, most of the games has 60fps mode now, some even has 120 fps.
We are going to see more and more of this.

This post reminded me when I was 13 years on IGN boards and kids used to list things to justify their love of a plastic box.

I can't even finish reading past the second point. I was stuck at the first point I forgot the second was..

your tag really fits you.

It's easy to hate pc when you got easier approach of console, such as ps or nintendo. But somehow, the options are better in pc, like reshade or mods.

Even some old games can be explored once more, giving new breath, or changes for the better, by using small mods and reshade. Or ability to use cheat engine to alter the game to your own liking.

They all, have pro and cons.

Am I the only person on GAF who regularly plays all platforms? Switch, PC, PS5, Xbox, hell even mobile and PCVR & Quest.
Me 3. Only one I don't really touch too much is Xbox because everything comes to PC. I still boot up the Xbox One X to play some 360 games though.

Playing Astro Bot on PS5 and Indiana Jones on PC atm. Played Zelda WW on Wii U month before last. Got a Quest 3 and will play Batman when it's on sale. I have 3 CRTs I got my retro consoles hooked up and was playing Kirby's Epic Yarn on my Wii (long as hell over due). Played the final Splatfest not too long ago on the Switch. Playing vampire survivors and Balatro on my OLED Deck. I have the Netflix games on my phone ready to go when I'm out.

Yeah, I have 0 bias towards any of the systems really. I got nitpicks about each one, but nothing that really matters.

In a time where console games drop to 864p you really say that?

And graphics leaps staggered when the biggest advancement is ray tracing that is way too demanding to run on most current hardware? Sure.

i mean....last gen majority of ps4 games runs at 30fps only. Now we have 60fps option.
I remember people saying majority of ps5 games will run at 30 fps, and here we are, we still getting 60fps mode.

technology will keep advancing.
With the aid of better upscaling tech in the future, i dont really care about native pixels as long it looks good.

Of those 10 points only the last couple could be somewhat legit reasons to dislike the PC platform.

1 - Of course some games require keyboard and mouse... Obviously not all genres (like RTS games) are playable without those. Also, PCs are backwards compatible with games from several decades ago, before the gamepad became a standard for PC games.

2 - User issue.

3 - User issue

4 - User issue

5 - lol

6 - lol

7 - Plenty of PC exclusives, like.... the games that require a keyboard and mouse? Also, Playstation doesn't have that many exclusives anymore and in the case of Nintendo, you can play your copies on emulators and enjoy better results than native hardware.

8 - User issue, mostly.

9 - I agree with the Unreal Engine issues, the rest are just you.

10 - Can't argue with that if that's your experience.

Except that 60fps most often comes at an enormous cost where the graphics, resolution, or both, look terrible and there is a huge disparity between consoles and PC. This gap widens further when ray tracing is thrown into the mix. Those consoles aren’t getting more powerful and games are getting more demanding. If anything, the gap was at its smallest at the start of the gen and is steadily growing.

You look at stuff like Black Myth Wukong or Indiana Jones and the difference is massive.

Sure, but the base consoles are still stuck with FSR, so you still have a few years of that unless you have a Pro.

How much there is to see?
A world of gaming, vast and grand,
Yet tangled thoughts take a heavy hand.
PC or console—what should he choose?
David frets, with much to lose.

Reasons abound, tenfold they mount,
Every flaw he seeks to count.
Controller woes, menus amiss,
Games with exclusives he won’t dismiss.
“Why own a PC? Why own an Xbox?”
His heart’s a tempest of mental locks.

Steam owns a corner of his doubt,
“Just 44 games? What’s that about?
Three exclusives I’ll never play—
Was this investment thrown away?”
On Xbox too, his games repeat,
A cycle of sameness, bittersweet.

“PlayStation reigns,” he proudly boasts,
“500 games! Why need more hosts?
Nintendo, fine—a world unique,
But Xbox and PC? So antique!
Windows breaks, with errors galore,
Give me a Mac, I’ll ask no more.”

David B, your worries delight,
As you argue deep into the night.
The graphics, the glitches, the freezing screen,
Your gamer woes are a sight unseen.
Oh David B, how much there is to see—
If only you’d just play worry-free!
