Steam connection keeps timing out.

So I am trying to download HL2 to my new system over my Steam account. It'll connect for a short while, than give me the error message "Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers."

I dont know a lot about Firewalls, with my new system when I instaled my mobo software, it had a nForce firewall with it. When I started up steam, the firewall message came up asking if I wanted to allow Steam access to the net, I selected allow. So I dont know what else it could be. I have a router (D-Link) but that didnt give me problems on my other PC.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

STEAM is a piece of shit. Constant problems. Couldn't use it for 3 months, nothing. No CSS, No HL2. Then poof, magically started working again.

FU haters, no problems with Steam whatsoever here.

Same here, works great for me.

Speaking of which, in something that hasn't worked in forever, the friends list is now back in beta:

Add this string to your Steam shortcut (in the target box, after the quotes):

-beta steam3friends -clientbeta steam3friends

Once you start Steam again, it should update itself with friends list working again.

Doesn't look like it retained previous friends though, but it's nice to have it back.

This is really pissing me off. I just completaly turned off the damn firewall, and it did quit giving me that error. but thta isnt stoping the Steam from timing out the download.

It will download for about than 10 minutes, than just stop, right now the game is at 10%. I am on cable, and I am getting an average dl rate (over steam) of like 35 to 40 kbs. This is pathetic. After it stops I just have to double click it to get it to cintinue, of corse that only lasts another 10 mins or so.
