I had gamepass for a while and ea app, uplay. I found i was just rushing through games or not really playing them because it's so disposable and you have too much choice. Plus.when you unsub its gone.

Now I just buy games a year after release fully patched with all dlc and a third of the price. Maybe I'll buy 1 or 2 games on release but it's rare now.

Just picked up all the mainline resident evil games and dlc for like £40.

There is nothing wrong with the mindset. The only issue with it is that it isn't always efficient. Meaning that it could cost more to get something on Steam instead of somewhere else. But for some people, the extra cost is made up for by ease of use. I'm not going to buy anything from the Ubisoft store, or the EA store, or Epic Games Store. Release the game on Steam, and I will buy it if I want to play it. That's a personal preference, and I'm happy with it.
Playnite or GOG Galaxy makes it very easy to have games from multiple stores.

People mention GOG alot but ill be honest having yet another launcher option for digital items isnt for me.

I use big picture mode alot also.

In terms of ownership I dont really care, when I go to the afterlife I am not going to be giving two shits about my digital game library nor will I care about a mountain of plastic discs. SO whether its a digital license or no DRM it really doesnt bother me.

In terms of Game Pass I think it may be a bit too far the other way as people have said, its a little bit throwaway.

I like the purpose of buying games, but of course the price is the limiting factor I can afford every game I want but I dont particularly want to spend my money on a game like that. Thats where PC GP comes in..
I mean lets take the three games I mentioned.

The Outer Worlds 2 - 59.99
Ninja Gaiden 4 - 59.99
Keeper - 24.99

PC Game Pass , x 3 Months = 21.50

When you compare the two, its a little more compelling.

Why is that, that youd rather pay for the expensive version?
Because I would have to be subscribed to GP forever to play SC2.
While there are times I just login twice a month, play some Coop missions and doesn't login until any new Mods/Boredom/mood strikes, which is when I play it a lot for weeks.

I don't wanna get locked out of my own game behind a subscription.

The advantage of a drm-free release isn't just it's longevity, it's also versatility. You could, for example, take any launcher or UI you desire and have a DRM-free game launch through it without it summoning 17 other launchers and login screens.

With GOG you can literally just ignore the Galaxy launcher and play the games through Steam.

Steam has aged well, there's trailers, quick download etc. game pass is predicated on its popularity, service, and I don't think it will age well, it's a borderline online blockbuster and I've said it for years the market is ready for a gaming Netflix.
