A voice for Jacko gets an earful

Comedian Steve Harvey - who's been an avid apologist for Michael Jackson on his morning drive-time radio show - is taking heavy fire from listeners for his die-hard support of the 46-year-old accused child molester.

Former fans of "The Steve Harvey Morning Show" - which airs on black-oriented stations in Dallas and Los Angeles - have bombarded Harvey's office with faxes, phone calls, letters and E-mail calling Harvey a "hypocrite," "two-faced," "obnoxious" and other insults.

"There was an enormous feedback from listeners initially, and most of it was negative," a source at West Coast station 100.3/The Beat told Daily News contributor Jawn Murray. "Many listeners felt like this was nothing but propaganda and that Steve operates with double standards."

Harvey isn't taking the flak lying down.

The erstwhile "King of Comedy," who also hosts "Steve Harvey's Big Time" on the WB network, spent two recent radio shows scolding African-Americans for not backing Jackson to the hilt.

"I feel like the AfricanAmerican community has abandoned both Michael and me," Harvey harrumphed.

Harvey's loyalty to Jackson caused him to stop his vocal defense of Eminem against charges of racism.

When the white rap star spoofed Jackson's troubles in his "Just Lose It" music video, Harvey announced on the air, "He's crossed the line. We're taking back his ghetto pass."

Jackson - whose 45th-birthday party Harvey hosted last year - has been an occasional guest on Harvey's radio show.

His show really sucks. It's Harvey backed by a crew of black women who just aren't funny and all of them act like they are some kind of moral barometer. Harvey frequently seems like a cranky, stubborn old man on it, launching into annoying rants here and there.

It's too bad because at first the show had potential as a replacement for Dr. Dre and Ed Lover morning show, but the format when they brought in those women ended up being crap.
