Still Wakes the Deep: Siren’s Rest | Official Announce Trailer (DLC Expansion is out now!)

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

1986. The Beira D is now a groaning steel catacomb interred in the inky depths of the North Sea. What really happened that December day in 1975, when communications to the mainland were severed and the rig sank without a trace? What answers can be given to families who still grieve, ten years on?

You are Mhairi. And you will find those answers. As the leader of a saturation dive to the wreck of the Beira D, you descend, a fragile light in the crushing dark. Your mission: uncover the fate of the crew and recover what remains of their passing.

From the acclaimed developer The Chinese Room comes Still Wakes the Deep: Siren's Rest, a paid story expansion for three-time BAFTA-winning Still Wakes the Deep.

Still Wakes the Deep: Siren's Rest will launch on 18 June on Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox via Series X|S and PC, and PlayStation®5 (PS5™), for $12.99/£9.99/€12.99.

Played the original game on Gamepass and almost turned it off after they rub their activism in your face.

You stumble upon some guy's cabin and he has some 'Britain First" posters or whatever and your character goes "prick" because God forbid you care about your country and don't want it ruined by foreigners lol. It's even funnier because the game takes place in the 70s when England's situation was a far cry from what it is now (let alone the rest of GB). Anyway, it's a very decent walking simulator to be fair but man, miss me with that shit...

Day 1 for me. Already bought the game after finishing it on GP. It's probably my favorite horror game ever made.

Good price, hopefully it's decently long.

We've reached the point where it's not enough to wait 1 year to have a game patched after release, you need to way 1 year for the expansion to drop and then wait some more for that expansion to also get patched.

Game was good on release and this dlc is made after the game as it should and not cut from the game. Bought the dlc as I loved the game. Art book also incoming.

This was already explained by some in the main thread and apparently is not what you make of it. Can't be arsed to look it up.

That good? I'll start it tonight if that's legit

What makes it your favorite?
Just a cool setting. Great graphics. Doesnt overstay it's welcome. Feels like a horror movie like The Thing in game form. No complaints really. Gameplay is light and casual but remained fun.

It was a cool game, but maybe just a 6/10. It could have been so much more, but I love cosmic horror so I'm pleased the game was made at all. Might check in on the DLC some rainy day.

The main character is Scottish and it's clearly a dig at the National Front which was extremely unpopular in Scotland during the 70s (still is). During the 70s it was blatantly a pro Nazi party and loved spread antisemitism conspiracy theories. It wasn't just concerned with foreigners, but hated anyone who wasn't white and thought eugenics were good. As in they supported social classes depending on your race. "the negro has a smaller brain and a much less complex cerebral structure than whites" is a literal quote from the leader of the party at the time.

Is this game scary? It gave some until dawn vibes which, while interesting, wasn't a scary game.

Fair enough.

However you can forgive me for thinking it was another display of activism under the guise of THE MESSAGE as we see so much of it in media these days.

Good game, but Got 3/4 the way through it on gamespass and hit a game breaking bug where an invisible wall blocking the door wasn't removed. No way to fix it except start the game from scratch.

watched some streamers play the first game, a snoozefest wealking simulator

Liked the original but it felt repetitive at times and once you started to explore or backtrack it wasn't as polished.

I liked everything about it but the gameplay. Got the physical on PS5 and traded it in right away after finishing it. One and done. Some of the praise here is too much. Gameplay wise it's not much beyond a walking simulator. If that's your thing cool, but buyer beware.

Loved the game, Bought the DLC and the game. PLayed on Gamepass back when it released.

Horror fans dont sleep on this, fantastic game and voice acting.

I played it from beginning to end today and loved every second. Fantastic story and art style. Thanks for the push man

Pretty cool this DLC comes out in a few days

Wtf are you talking about? This is a great game and I'm not aware of any major issues with it at launch?

Crazy how much of a difference good voice acting makes, think this has probably the best voice acting I've played in a game. Very cool and original story with some really nice visuals. The gameplay is a bit simplistic and can occasionally be a bit repetitive but the story kept me hooked. Worth playing, definitely if you have GP.

PLayed it, Engaging so far and linear just like the first game and i love that. That sexy scottish accent is back, now with female voice. Love the voice acting.

Finished it, wished it was much longer but then it was dirt cheap. Inferior to base game though. But i loved the voice acting in this one too.

Main game is the real meat and one of the finest games of past year.

Yeah, but why would a game that takes place in the 1970s try to inject modern activist stuff? It's not like they would've put a blue hair or a Black Lives Matter supporter in it.

It just seems like you're hypersensitive to people dunking on London/GB which is honestly a weird thing to get upset about. Patriotism isn't cool lol

The Chinese Room's Still Wakes the Deep represented a solid, if somewhat traditional, first-person horror experience, one centred on the Beira D and its infestation by a hostile entity. Given its mix of tension and tragedy, the plot felt complete but still left plenty of room open for addressing various mysteries.

Siren's Rest, the first story DLC, unfortunately, doesn't delve into them. Occurring over 10 years later, it focuses on a new character named Mhairi, a diver seeking to explore the wreckage with her crew and find answers. The underwater exploration is a new touch, but for the first hour or so, there's little more than opening doors and photographing corpses involved.

The tension does somewhat ratchet up later, and gameplay is a bit more diverse, but Siren's Rest fails to deliver on its premise, instead focusing on a more personal tale. This would have been fine given the solid voice acting, but even that lacks adequate set-up. What would have served as a decent epilogue to the base game instead feels like an unnecessary addition despite some decent performances and visuals.
