Stop me from snapping Acid in half.

I just spent TWO GODDAMN HOURS on this one mission, and at the very end a scripted cutscene caused a whole mess of guards to come out and they mowed me down before I could leave. No chance to save. Only my innate sense of self-restraint kept the PSP from flying out the window into the fucking street just now.

LEARN THE INFINITE SAVE

in MGA you can do a mid-game save ANYTIME. This will save and boot you to the title screen.

BUT READ THISwhen you load the save IT IS NOT DESTROYED. So if you die, well look you have this save you made. MGA has long ass missions...learn to take advantage of quick-saving mid-mission. I usually would make a save about every 30 mins in a mission.

Oh man, its pretty great you know.
I saw one tiny movie and that was all it took for me to go from zero interest to an all time high. The whole card system looks so interesting and it looks so fucking gorgeous at the same time.

Yeah, I shamelessy I admit that I'm also abusing the field save, but I'm really glad it's there though.

In any case, one of the most annoying aspects of Ac!D so far is triggering events. Be it triggering an event when I'm trying to run away from a downed guard, only to have him awake right after and radios the brigade. Or, when I'm moving somewhere and then movement/cost is all wasted because of an event trigger. Also, having to sit there for many turns to observe guard movement/LoS or waiting for him to return to his post is a bit rying too. Besides that, fantastic game!

BTW, has anyone been able to go through without killing a soul? Seems really hard to considering how fast they get up unless you have enough actions left. Also, how do you use a detonator to detonate C4?

...this only further brings down my opinion of the game. At first I thought just this level was broken but reading this it turns out it's the whole game. Great.

If you have any interest at all in strategy games, then you need to buy it. Now!!!!

I'll pick this game up used. Given the nature of the game and the fact that people just aren't going to realise this isn't a normal Metal Gear title, I wouldn't be surprised if someone hadn't already traded it in somewhere.

Actually, they'd probably just use a returns policy. Meh, I'll have a look in a couple of weeks.

I like the gameplay, I'm just disappointed in what I've just learned about the save system. Here I thought it was completely broken, and I find out that yes, it is completely broken, but not how I thought. I'm not sure which is worse.

Best turn-based strategy game ever! Seriously, this game is fantastic. It's very trying at times, but I'm getting the knack of it.

AND I CAN'T SKIP THE CUTSCENES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHJ

Hold both shoulder buttons + X to speed through the text.

Sometimes, pressing the Start button skips the cutscene entirely.

Enable skip cinemas/fast text in the options menu, and hold down X to fast forward through the text in cutscenes.

Grenades -- they're not just for dinner.

I'm handling the scripted events okay. After the first one, I learned to save a bit more often and to keep a grenade handy. Those cards that increase the # of actions, combined with the ones that -4 Cost really help too.

My main complaint is regarding the translation... not just the story, but the tutorials. I was up to stage 6 before I knew that the Ammo cards for EQUIP Weapons are simply a 2nd EQUIP Weapon with the right ammo rating.

Ah well, Snake told me today was a good day, because he didn't need to use his AK.

In stage 3/ruins after office, where do I go? I see stairs but they lead nowhere since the 2nd floor has pillars that block the path and then Snake gets a call from Roger saying the road path is blocked so I have to find another way.

I think MGA really appeals to me because i'm a fan not only of strategy games, but also strategic board games which make use of things like cards and action points as main gameplay mechanics. Its like they took all those elements and slapped on an MGS theme, which makes it even more rockin!

Investigate the repaired wall, if not, head back to the entrance to exit the stage and head to the armory. Roger should tell you to hit the armory after the events at the ruins.

I'd say Grenades are probably the best weapon in the game. Throw a grenade near a guard or two and then shoot the grenade with a gun and BOOM DEAD GUARDS :) Much more effective than fighting weapon vs. weapon since the guards can dodge/block/counter bullets but they can't dodge my GRENADE EXPLOSION ^__^

Aren't grenades pretty loud? :/

It's broken because you suck at it? Or it's broken because you can save anywhere, eliminating tons of unnecessary frustration just because you happen to play the wrong card and die?

Why dont they just add save states then? It is ridiculous to me to have to save in mid miission unless you have to stop playing. I can imagine fire emblem or advance wars with saving, would totally kill the games for me. Even on emulator I dont save mid level.

It's broken because you have to abuse the save system (which as near as I can tell requires me to exit out to the PSP's home menu, then restart the game to begin again) so you don't lose over an hour of gameplay if you die. I've worked my way back up to where I died and I've had to replay the same part of the level like five times so far because the goddamned level 1 card never shows up in Teliko's "hand" and I keep getting massacred.

Not only that but I had the game freeze on me twice mid-mission which would've resulted in much cursing and replaying if not for mid-game saving.

Should only take you back to the Title screen IIRC.

Well, the level 1 card finally showed up and I got out of that damned level. Two hours of replay in total, for no apparent reason. I hope that's the first and last time the game pulls that shit.

EDIT: And I'm talking about loading up the save. I don't see any method of exiting to the title screen in-game except resetting.

I definitely have to pick Metal Gear Acid up next week when I get paid. I just love Metal Gear games...The atmosphere, the style, the music...But I can't stand Acid's art...Thank God Shinkawa does the main series art still.

Dude. When it's your turn, go to "system" then choose "yes" to return to the intermission. Then go to "option" and choose "return to title screen." Then choose "continue," and finally, stop whining.

Well, that had a very low priority on my list of complaints, so it doesn't much change my attitude. And why are you taking this so personally?

Because he gave it a 8.5, and EVERYBODY must agree with him. :p

Stop being such a hater Kobun

If you have more fun playing your nintendo handheld, go play your nintendo handheld

Don't mean to add insult to injury, but I just cleared the mission you were complaining about with ease. Maybe you're just unlucky.

It was one awesome sequence tho, being able to control two folks while on the run. Basically, I just had teliko lead and snake cover the back. Good times :D

What was I supposed to do? Have any suggestions?

When the stupid Lv.1 card FINALLY came up, I blew through the level no problem. It just refused to. If I'd have known that the quicksave system was completely exploitable (that the save files don't get killed when you load them, like the game leads you to believe) I'd have been done with the level about two hours ago.

You don't see me posting my complaints about NA games :)

I've just seen nothing but complaints from Kobun, so I was just making a friendly suggestion.

I'm not sure if this even deserves a response, but what the hell. I like the PSP a lot, and I've made plenty of positive comments about Wipeout and Lumines. Trying to make my complaints about this and Darkstalkers into some sort of anti-PSP stance is ludicrous.

I'm not taking it personally, but it just seems to me, from personal experience, that you often uh... "overlook" certain features of games that you're playing. ;)

I'm hereby calling this game Metal Gear BOX from now on, because I've been spending more than half my time walking through levels covered in cardboard boxes.

They should've includes a real cardboard box with THE ORANGE printed on it as a bonus goodie.
