Strikers 1945 I & II--Saturn

I just got Strikers 1945 in the mail yesterday and was floored at how great it looks and plays on the Saturn, so of course, I immediately went on Ebay today and copped the sequel. Now, I hear that II has slowdown issues (whereas the original is flawless as far as I can tell from playing last night) but is better, visually (from screenshots I can already see nice "alpha-blended" clouds for example). Now, barring any arguments on which you prefer, is the conversion/port to the Saturn shoddy, as in, will the slowdown reach the epic proportions of In The Hunt or is just a minor annoyance that I'll overlook in light of the entire package?

And now, pics:

I have II and I love it... I havent played it in awhile since my saturn isnt hooked up but I dont remember any slowdown? sounds like someone bitching over a minor flaw.

There is some slowdown in some of the busier parts. I can't really recall specific instances cause I haven't played in a bit. But it still looks great and I believe crisper than the PSX port.

Saturn S1945 II has severe slowdown on the arctic level. It occurs constantly for a good portion of the level. The PSX version has no such slowdown and has true transparencies from the arcade version that the Saturn version lacks. I believe they play the same aside from the slowdown, though.

On "crisp" visuals: This is exactly what struck me when I first started playing Strikers 1945--just awesome clarity and detail and lacking that quintessential Saturn "muddiness", which even Radiant Silvergun suffers from. Everything's super vibrant and colorful yet at the same time very distinct. Seriously, you should have seen me last night, slack-jawed and with a grin from ear to ear. I notice also that I am turning into quite the Psikyo whore. :)

But is it "true-to-arcade" slowdown, or just a fuck-up in transition? To me, the measuring stick is In The Hunt. You can cook a turkey to that slide-show (Saturn version of course).

And the Saturn version fakes the transparencies, huh? Should be expected, considering, but are they at least faked well? Ok, gfx whore mode off now.

No, it's a problem with the port. The PSX version is much closer to the arcade, just like with ITH.

It's the usual screendoor dithered stuff you see in Saturn games. It's much less offensive than the slowdown.

Like The End mentioned, why not just go for the PS2 double pack? (Psikyo Shooting Collection Volume 1)

I don't/can't play imports on my PS2, and it's about to die anyway.
I heard they are actually worse ports/conversions than even the original PSX versions (TATE mode screwed up? Anyone confirm?).
And I gotta show love to my Saturn, where I'm building a nice shooter collection:

Gunbird
Strikers 1945 I&II
Kingdom Grandprix
Radiant Silvergun
Soukygurentai
In The Hunt
Layer Section

Next is something cheap, like Darius Gaiden. In my dreams is Battle Garegga and Hyper Duel, which are crazy, ludicrous, expensive on Ebay.

Edit: Actually, next is Batsugun, which is still relatively sane at about $50 or a little less.

On a quick glance a few nights ago, Tate mode looked o.k. on Psikyo Shooting Collection Sengoku Ace and Dragon Blaze. But I didnt actually dump my TV on the side to verify so it was somewhat hard to tell.
